How to learn English well?
-Quickly create synonyms of 3,000 commonly used English words by shorthand.
(abbreviated version)
If you have memorized English words on a large scale, you will find that many English words have completely different meanings, but their spelling methods are very similar, such as "doe, foe, joe, hoe, roe, toe, woe" and so on. These words differ only by one letter in spelling, but their meanings are completely different, so people can easily confuse them, especially those short words with few letters. Because the spelling structure of these short words is relatively simple and lacks internal root structure, word formation is helpless for these words, so short words with few letters are more troublesome. Is there a way to effectively avoid the confusion of common short words and effectively improve the memory efficiency of these short words? The answer is yes. Through years of research, the author has made hundreds of millions of word-for-word comparisons of a large number of basic words by using computer database technology, creating a practical and effective memory method, which can solve the above problems very effectively.
The author sets a large number of words spelled with only one letter into a memory group, and uses the different meanings of the words in the group to form meaningful sentences for memory. This method can not only effectively avoid confusion, but also greatly improve the efficiency of memory and strengthen the firmness of memory. For example, "Doe, enemy, Joe, hoe, roe, toe and disaster" is compiled as "Sad Joe hoes the enemy's toe and gets the doe and roe", and you can easily remember these seven words forever. Based on this idea, this book has completed a large number of comparative analysis of more than 8000 basic English words/kloc-0. There are more than 800 sentences in the book and more than 3,000 English words are collected.
Because this book involves a large vocabulary and a large amount of data, although it has been reviewed and revised repeatedly, it is inevitable that there will be mistakes. Please forgive me if you find any omissions.
explain
First of all, the principle of associative memory method
Memory psychology tells us that it is easy to forget one thing in isolation. Only by establishing a close relationship between unfamiliar new objects and familiar old objects can we remember new memory contents at the least cost.
Second, the principle of compression reduction
On the basis of memorizing a word, put words with similar spelling together to find out the differences, and only remember the mutual differences between the word and its related words, that is, you can remember more words with less brain power, and if necessary, you can recall similar words with opposite rules. This is what this book calls "compression" and "reduction" of memory.
Memorizing words with the method of "compression/reduction" can not only greatly reduce the memory burden, but also strengthen each other's memory and awaken the memory content from multiple paths because of the rich interrelationships between words.
For example, after remembering the word "doe", you can contact and remember a series of spelling formats such as "foe, hoe, joe, toe, roe, woe ..."? Oe "word fragments, as long as you remember these differences such as" F, H, J, T, R, W ... ",that is, you can memorize a large number of related words.
Third, the law of approximation
The so-called "approximate shape" in this book refers to the phenomenon that one word has the same number of letters as another, but only one or two letters are different, and most of the other letters are arranged in the same position and order. If only one letter is different, it is called "first-class similar word", and so on.
Fourth, the principle of memorizing synonyms.
There is a close relationship between words. Based on this relationship, a large number of words can be associated with one word through "associative memory method" and "compression reduction method".
Five, the advantages of near-form sentence memory method
1. Simple operation and practical data;
2. Strong regularity, simple and clear, convenient for comparison, compression, memory and accurate reduction and awakening;
3. Most common words in this book have been "approximated" and "deduced", so readers can use them immediately. It is really a shortcut to memorize a large number of basic English words with the fastest speed.
It is much easier for China people to recite Chinese sentences than English words. If we can make a group of similar English words into meaningful sentences, we can turn the difficult into the easy, simplify the complex, and greatly improve the efficiency and interest of memory. Do you think it is easier to recite more than 800 Chinese sentences or 3,000 English words?
Six, the layout rules of this book and the signs and symbols in the book.
1. The sources of words in this book are: new primary English 1-6, primary English 1-4, new junior English 1-3, junior English 1-6, senior English 1-3 and. Advanced gre vocabulary, foreign trade English 1-4 volumes, computer professional English 1-3 volumes, medical professional English, first-level common words in word frequency statistical thesaurus, second-level common words in word frequency statistical thesaurus, third-level common words in word frequency statistical thesaurus, and word frequency statistics.
2. The depth of vocabulary learning in this book: The purpose of this book is to help people quickly remember accurate spelling and concise basic meanings, so as to achieve the goal of getting started quickly. To really master every word, you need to rely on a lot of comprehensive application training of "listening, writing, remembering, speaking and thinking", rather than relying on short-term surprise memory.
3. The arrangement rules of this book
① Compound words without "-"connection.
② All similar words are listed in groups at one time, with mnemonic sentences in the first two cells, and similar words in the group in the last two cells.
③ The repetition rate of entries in this book is extremely low. This book * * * has collected 3 100 English words, only 3,967 text items, and the average number of occurrences of each word is only 1.28 times, so the content of this book is very concise and compact.
Seven, card cycle memory method:
Memory physiologists have found that if human beings consolidate some contents in time before forgetting, the time required for forgetting again will be greatly extended, and after repeated and timely consolidation, near-permanent memory can be realized. For example, people who emigrate after the age of ten can still use their mother tongue decades later; On the other hand, if you can't consolidate before forgetting happens, you will completely forget what you wrote, so you must remember it again when reviewing. This will take a lot more time than time, and the effect will be much worse than the former.
The one-size-fits-all mechanical review cycle will make the memorizer waste too much time on familiar words and easy-to-remember words, but not enough on new words and difficult-to-remember words; In addition, while memorizing vocabulary, worrying too much about how many times a word should be circulated and repeated will distract the memory and increase the psychological burden of the memorizer; At present, some popular circular memory methods require the memorizer to remember according to strict time and cycle, which is really a burden for office workers with fast working and living pace and more and more students with homework.
In order to memorize English words quickly, it is also important to use scientific circular consolidation method besides using associative memory methods such as "closed form and sentence making" every time. This section briefly introduces a cycle method that conforms to the physiological laws of memory and can effectively improve the memory efficiency-card-inserting cycle memory method.
First, the card cycle operation method:
1. Suppose all the words to be memorized are made into small cards, with English spelling and phonetic symbols on one side and Chinese meanings on the other, and the cards to be memorized are stacked one by one in the direction of Chinese and English.
2. Take out the card in front, read its Chinese meaning, then write its English spelling silently, recite its pronunciation, and then cross the card to check whether the answer is correct.
3. If the dictation and pronunciation are correct, insert this card into the appropriate position in the card sequence (please refer to point 4 for the appropriate position). If you are wrong, recite the word again, and then insert this card into the back of the second card, so that after memorizing the next card, the card that was wrongly remembered will be presented in your memory again.
Whether it is correct or not, repeat the operation of point 2 after insertion, facing the memory of the item contained in the next card.
4. The cards that have just been tested should be inserted into the position behind several cards in the card queue after jumping, waiting for them to appear again. The distance after jumping depends on the proficiency of entering the water and the practice speed you intend to maintain. If the answer is correct and skillful, it should be inserted further away from the front after the jump, and then it will appear more frequently; Entries with wrong answers and low proficiency will appear more frequently if they are inserted higher after jumping;
5. No matter how many times the entry card is correctly answered, it can't be eliminated or put in another place, and each word will appear repeatedly at different frequencies due to different proficiency; For cards that you think have been "permanently" remembered, you can put them at the end of the card arrangement. If the last "permanently" remembered card floats to the front again, it means that you have memorized all the words in this batch of cards. At this time, you can add new cards and recite new words.
Second, the advantages and disadvantages of this cycle operation method:
The learning form of this cycle is simple and casual. Learning new words and reviewing old words are simultaneously integrated into each examination process. Every time you use a new lesson, regardless of time and frequency, it can automatically maintain the coherence of your study, so that you can concentrate on your study at any time and stick to the scientific laws of memory without being distracted by the learning cycle, progress and review. It is especially suitable for the stable accumulation of a large number of words in long-term study.
The biggest disadvantage of card insertion cycle method is that users spend a lot of time making cards, which is not good for friends who are eager to improve their English vocabulary in a short time. Therefore, in the appendix of this book, the author recommends to readers a computer mnemonic software developed by the author according to this mnemonic method, which has obtained the copyright of national computer software, namely "Champion English".
