There are two medium-sized reservoirs in Shangli County, namely Dongyuan Reservoir and Liuyuan Reservoir. However, according to the existing local data, Dongyuan Reservoir is slow to move, and Liuyuan Reservoir is advancing rapidly.

By comparing the distribution schematic, it can be seen that Dongyuan Reservoir mainly serves the downstream Pingxiang main city and its surrounding areas, and Liuyuan Reservoir mainly serves the surrounding areas of Shangli County. For the development of the county and the protection of the water in the county industrial park, Liuyuan Reservoir will be mainly promoted. Dongyuan Reservoir is also under the jurisdiction of Shangli, that is to say, on the one hand, the main city needs to be promoted, but on the other hand, it needs the support of the county, which leads to similar contradictions between investors and beneficiaries. Considering that the municipal government has only recently set aside some towns and villages from Shangli to return to the Economic Development Zone, the three southern towns are easily left alone by the county, and the urban areas are not so powerful to expand northward in an all-round way.
