Aaron Mordke Kozminski (full name Aron Mordke Kozminski) was born in the Polish town of Korodava under the rule of Tsarist Russia at that time. His father, Abram Jozef Kozminski, is a tailor and his wife is Golda née Lubnowska. In 1881, due to the economic depression in Eastern Europe and the massacre in Tsarist Russia, his family immigrated to London and settled in the Whitechapel slum in London's East End with many Jewish refugees who also fled. One of his sisters and two brothers also left Russia to live in Whitechapel, and his widowed mother also immigrated after that.

In July 1890 and February 1891, Kosmiski was sent to the workhouse in Mile End Old Town due to a mental disorder. The second time he was transferred to Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum, where he remained for three years until he was admitted to Leavesden Asylum on 19 April 1894. ). Medical records indicate that Kosminski had suffered from mental illness since at least 1885. His psychosis manifested itself in auditory hallucinations, delusional fears of being eaten by others that drove him to pick up and eat food thrown away as trash, and a refusal to groom himself. The cause of his insanity was recorded as "masturbation," which is generally considered a euphemism for masturbation. A poor diet left him looking permanently emaciated; his low weight was documented in psychiatric records. In February 1899, he weighed only 96 pounds (44 kilograms). Died in 1919 at the age of 53.
