during Fuyu, Bohai and Liao dynasties, Harbin was under the jurisdiction of Fuyu, Bohai and Tokyo Road. In A.D. 1114, the leader of Jurchen, Akuta, led his troops to fight against Liao, and launched the battles of "Ningjiangzhou" and "Chuhedian", which defeated 1, Liao soldiers. In 1115, he proclaimed himself emperor, established the Jin Kingdom, and took over the country with its capital of Huining House (now the site of the capital city of Afghanistan), and Harbin was the capital city of Jin Shangjing. In the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, Harbin became the territory of the Wojin family, the third brother of Genghis Khan, and the jurisdiction of Nuergan Dusi. After the establishment of the Qing Dynasty, in the 21st year of Qianlong (1756), the deputy capital of Alachuka was established in Acheng, and Harbin was under its jurisdiction. In the middle and late Qing Dynasty, with the implementation of the policy of "reclaiming land in Beijing Banner" and "opening the ban and releasing wasteland", a large number of Manchu and Han people moved to Harbin.

in the 22nd year of Guangxu reign in Qing dynasty (1896), tsarist Russia induced the Qing government to sign the Sino-Russian Secret Treaty and won the right to build the Middle East railway. It was called Harbin in 1898 and belongs to Jilin Province. Since 1897, the Middle East Railway has been built with Harbin as the center, and Harbin has been built as a city. In 1898, Russia renamed Harbin "Songhua River City", and in 193 it was renamed Harbin City. Russian immigrants and other European immigrants began to move to Harbin in large numbers. After the Qing Dynasty, the government of the Republic of China established Binjiang County in Harbin in 1913 and Binjiang Road in 1914.

Harbin Municipal Administration Bureau was established in p>1921, and Harbin Special City was established in 1926, recovering the administrative power controlled by Russia for a long time. In the subsequent Manchukuo period, it was restructured into Binjiang Province in 1937, with Harbin as the capital. Until August 18, 1945, the Soviet Red Army seized the city and set up a hospital to govern the city. The Soviet Union subsequently handed over the city to the government of the Republic of China. In April 1946, China People's Liberation Army seized the city. It was changed to the capital of Songjiang Province in 1949 and Heilongjiang Province in 1954.

on August 11th, 1999, eight counties that were originally under the Songhua River area were merged into Harbin, making Harbin a sub-provincial city.
