People from Yancheng, Jiangsu, all immigrated from Suzhou. Is there any historical basis for this?

There is a historical basis. In the early Ming Dynasty, a large number of people from Suzhou and Nagato came to northern Jiangsu to reclaim land, and most of them came to today's Yancheng. After these people came to Yancheng, the population of Yancheng increased slowly and rapidly. It can be said that at least almost all Yancheng people thought that their ancestors came from Nagato, Suzhou, so many Yancheng people came to Suzhou to seek their roots. This phenomenon is also historical.

As we all know, Jiangsu is a strong economic province in China, ranking second in the country all the year round, second only to Guangdong. Compared with other provinces, the economic development is relatively balanced, and the development of every city is not bad, especially Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing and other cities in southern Jiangsu are very strong. Suzhou has surpassed many provincial capitals and is known as the strongest prefecture-level city in China, while the economies of Yancheng, Xuzhou and Huai 'an in northern Jiangsu are not as good as those in southern Jiangsu, but the overall gap is not big. Some time ago, Yancheng was listed as the core city of the Yangtze River Delta. Although Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Anhui all belong to the integration scope of the Yangtze River Delta, they are all included in the core of the Yangtze River Delta, and it seems that Yancheng is the only city in northern Jiangsu.

Moreover, many Yancheng people think that their ancestral home is in Nagato, Suzhou, so Yancheng people actually have a great connection with southern Jiangsu. This statement has been questioned by many people. So what is the truth? In fact, in the early Ming dynasty, a large number of people from the south of the Yangtze River did migrate to northern Jiangsu. At that time, many people came to northern Jiangsu to open up wasteland. These Yancheng people claimed that their ancestral home was Suzhou, because many Suzhou people came from Hongwu period.

Originally, the population of Yancheng in the Han Dynasty was small, but it reached 50,000 in the Tang Dynasty, which can be said to be close to the peak. However, in the early years of Hongwu, the population dropped to about 20 thousand again, and Hongwu dispersed it, which greatly restored the population. So at that time, at least half of Yancheng people were Suzhou people, so now Yancheng people say that their ancestors were Suzhou people, and there is nothing wrong. They even said that their ancestral home was Nagato, Suzhou. In other words, the downtown area of Suzhou today is of real old Suzhou descent, which is very common in China. For example, many Shandong people are from Hongdong County, Shanxi Province.
