I already have a U.S. visa and my passport is still valid for five months. Can I enter the United States?

In principle, entry is not allowed. A valid passport for travel to the United States must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay in the United States.

The official website of the U.S. Embassy clearly states that the basic materials for applying for a U.S. visa are as follows:

1. Non-immigrant visa electronic application form (DS-160).

2. A valid passport for travel to the United States must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay in the United States (except for countries with special agreements that enjoy exemptions). If the passport contains more than one person, each visa applicant will need to submit a separate application.

3. One (1) 2"x2" (5.1cmx5.1cm) photo taken within the last six months.

4. If a visa is issued, a visa reciprocity fee may also be required, depending on the applicant's nationality.

It is best to get a new passport. Conditions for renewal:

1. The visa page is about to be used up.

2. The passport has expired, or is valid for less than six months, or there are materials proving that the validity period does not meet the requirements for issuing a visa in the country of destination.

3. The name, gender, ID number, place of birth, date of birth, etc. in the household registration book are changed.

4. Those whose appearance has changed significantly (the ID card needs to be changed at the household registration department).

5. The applicant’s fingerprints are collected after the applicant recovers from the finger injury.

6. Other circumstances approved by the approval authority or competent department.
