Brief introduction of Chongqing Huguang guild hall

In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, Sichuan experienced wars, famines, plagues and tigers, and its population dropped sharply. The Qing government encouraged immigrants from other provinces to enter Sichuan for reclamation, and people with Hunan, Hubei and Guangdong feelings immigrated to Sichuan on a large scale. Under the wave of immigrants, Chongqing gradually prospered. In order to safeguard the rights and interests of homesickness, immigrants from all provinces set up guild halls in the city. In the Qing Dynasty, Chongqing successively built the famous "Eight Provinces Guild Hall" and Yungui Mansion. (Huguang Club, Jiangxi Club, Fujian Club, Shaanxi Club, Zhejiang Club, Jiangnan Club, Guangdong Club, Shaanxi Club, Yunnan-Guizhou CCBA).

Among them, Huguang Guild Hall, Qi 'an CCBA and adjacent Guangdong CCBA, which have been preserved to this day, are collectively called today's Huguang Guild Hall buildings.

Huguang Guild Hall is located at the Shuimen side of Gudong along the Yangtze River in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, and consists of Chongqing Palace, Qi and Guangdong surrounded by high walls. At the end of 2003, the governments of Chongqing and Yuzhong District invested nearly 200 million yuan to carry out protective restoration of the complex in the core area of Huguang Club, which was completed in September 2005. Covering an area of 184 18_, the core area of the guild hall is the largest and most well-preserved ancient guild hall complex in China, and it is an industrial and commercial institution funded by foreign officials and gentry in Chongqing during the Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty.

Three hundred years ago, the great migration movement, represented by "Huguang filling Sichuan" and involving more than a dozen provinces, created Chongqing people's broad mind of tolerance, openness, unity and enterprising, as well as their perseverance, courage to fight, enthusiasm, honesty and frankness. Chongqing Huguang Guildhall not only retains the material culture of the Guildhall building, but also embodies the intangible culture of the immigrant spirit. Regardless of the past, present and future, Chongqing Huguang Guild Hall is an important cultural symbol that Chongqing people are proud of. The building of the guild hall is large in scale, with patchwork layout and magnificent halls. Its simple and elegant shape is not easy to survive in the downtown area with high-rise buildings, which is of great historical, artistic and scientific value.

Huguang Guild Hall, also known as Wang Yu Temple, Wang Yu Palace and Chu Temple, is to commemorate Dayu's efforts to save the town. Qi' an CCBA, also known as the Imperial Palace, worships the emperor (also known as the blessed Lord) and prays for happiness, auspiciousness and peace. Guangdong CCBA, also known as Nanhua Palace, commemorates Huineng, the ancestor of Nanhua. Immigrants from Shanghai and Guangzhou mainly entered Bashu, and local beliefs also entered Sichuan with the immigrants, thus forming a unique pattern of folk beliefs in Sichuan in the Qing Dynasty. During this period, the belief in Dayu in Bashu area also showed a unique phenomenon of "being born in Sichuan and worshiping Chu".

There are tens of thousands of woodcarving, stone carving, brick carving and other carved works of art in the hall building, all of which are beautifully carved and breathtaking. Before the restoration, there were a large number of sculptures in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the themes of which were mainly The Journey to the West, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Table of Gods, Twenty-four Filial Pieties, etc., as well as patterns of dragons and phoenixes, animals and various exotic flowers and plants, which should be a kind of respect for the totem of immigrants' hometown and an outstanding representative of sculpture art in southern China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
