Zhejiang Province is located in the southeast coast of China and the economically developed area in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. With the increase of power grid capacity and large units, there is an urgent need for emergency standby capacity and rapid start-up of standby large units. After the completion of Tankeng Hydropower Station, it can bear 600MW load or emergency reserve capacity. After the completion of the power station, the reservoir can be used to regulate the flood and low water flow, make better use of the Three Gorges power, accelerate the development and utilization of small and medium-sized hydropower resources in Lishui area, and thus promote the rapid development of regional economy.

The upstream of Tankeng Power Station is Jingning She Autonomous County in the mountainous area of southern Zhejiang. The lower reaches of qingtian county are low-lying. At present, the modernization of cities and towns is on the rise and the population is increasing. The flood control standard in this county needs to be improved urgently to ensure the safety of people's lives and property. After the completion of the power station, combined with river regulation, the flood control standard of Qingtian County can be raised from the current once every three years to once every 20 years.

People in the reservoir area of Tankeng Power Station have been waiting for decades, looking forward to the early completion of the power station. Due to waiting for the power station to be launched, the capital construction investment in the reservoir area is very small, and the project has been delayed for a long time, which has seriously affected the economic development of the reservoir area and failed to get rid of poverty and become rich. Through the construction of this project and resettlement project, the immigrants in the reservoir area can go down the mountain to speed up poverty alleviation, expand local domestic demand, promote the all-round development of local construction industry, building materials industry and industry and commerce, and create employment opportunities for a large number of rural laborers.
