Chongqing Three Gorges University was founded in 1956 and is located in Wanzhou District, Chongqing, a thousand-year-old city and the capital of immigrants. In 1994, it was upgraded to an undergraduate institution. In 2013, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a master’s degree-granting unit. In 2021, it was approved by the Chongqing Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree-granting unit to establish a university. After more than 60 years of development, the school has become the first undergraduate university in Chongqing to advocate the "green education concept" and promote the "green education integration of industry and education".

Chongqing Three Gorges University has now formed a discipline and professional system with engineering, literature, and management as the main disciplines, and coordinated development of science, agriculture, economics, education, law, art and other disciplines.
