Why are there so many Chinese in Mauritius?

Throughout the long river of history, China people's footprints are almost all over the world. Today, with the development of global economy, China people have gone abroad to travel, study or work around the world.

For various reasons, some of them finally took root in foreign countries and became China people.

With their own efforts, they quickly integrated into local life and became an indispensable part.

Chinese in Mauritius are no exception.

Like other ethnic groups on the island, the first batch of China people who came to Mauritius were deceived here by the French navy from Sumatra in the 1940s of 18.

However, the deceived China people were soon sent back to Sumatra.

By the 1980s of 18, thousands of China people had voluntarily emigrated from Guangzhou to Port Louis from Britain, France, Denmark and other countries to work as blacksmiths, carpenters, shoemakers and tailors, and soon a small Chinatown called "China Camp" was formed in Port Louis.

In the following period, China immigrants in Mauritius continued to increase. In just1840-1843,300 China contract workers came to the island.
