The area and population of Jinmen Island.
Jinmen Island is an island located in Xiamen Bay, Fujian Province, China, about 10 km away from Xiamen. This used to be a frontier military island. Jinmen Island is located in the southwest of Fujian Province, China. It hangs in the east of Xiamen Island, bordering Xiamen Port. It is a barrier in the south of Fujian, with Taiwan Province Province in China in the east and Xiamen in China in the west. In the Ming Dynasty, a wall was built on the island. It is said that Zheng Chenggong once fought here.
Kinmen Island is shaped like a butterfly with spread wings, with a narrow middle and wide east and west ends. The east wing is larger than the west wing. The island is about 20 kilometers long from east to west. The strongest point in the north-south direction is at the eastern end, about 15.5 km. The narrow place in the center is only 3 kilometers. Wu Tai, the main peak, is 253 meters above sea level. There is only a stream on the island, and its source is short and small.
Jinmen Island covers an area of about 132 square kilometers, which is long from east to west and narrow from north to south. The highest point is Mount Wutai (253 meters) in the east of the island. There are many hills and bays in Jinmen Island, and the islands are separated by straits in the southwest of the island. The minerals in Jinmen Island are granite and porcelain clay, and the artificial afforestation has achieved remarkable results. The specialty Jinmen sorghum is well known.
Local folk customs:
The folk custom of Jinmen not only maintains the characteristics of southern Fujian, but also has unique charm. Traditional folk festivals are exactly the same as Zhangzhou and Quanzhou. In the annual sacrifice competition, "Cheng Huang" is the biggest. The villagers on the island regard the stone lion as a protector. At the intersection of the village, standing stone lions wearing armor or cloaks can be seen everywhere, and incense is common in front of the lion, which is a unique landscape of Kinmen.
Bao Zhong 18 Minnan-style ancient residence located at the northern end of Jinsha River, with towering swallowtail, not only represents the folk custom of Kinmen, but also reflects the rich and colorful Chinese culture, and has been turned into a "folk culture village". Jinmen lacks deep bay, Hong Kong and Macao, and the land is barren and arid. Because life is not easy, most residents engage in small-scale farming and fishing, or enlist in the army.
