What does opt mean?

OPT is optional practical training. It is the internship period after graduation on the American F 1 student visa. Students with F 1 visa can have 1 year optional practical training after graduation, or they can choose short-term training, during which you have a work permit.

You can work in any company, but what you do must be related to your major. In the meantime, you can stay in the United States without any restrictions. If international students do not apply for OPT within 60 days after graduation, they must leave the United States.

Extended data:

OPT is not a visa type, and the student status of international students has not changed. So be sure to keep in touch with the staff of the international office of the school before, and keep abreast of the changes in policies and procedures, so as to apply for a work visa or continue to study in the United States in the future.

Ordinary international students with F 1 visas are not allowed to work full-time in the United States. After graduation, students can find work practice units in related fields, and apply for OPT to obtain EAD (Employment Authorization Document) issued by the Immigration Bureau before they can work full-time.
