[Reprinted] Where is Xiang of Waxieba from?

Many genealogies record that ancestors came from Waxieba, Poyang, Jiangxi Province in the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasties. The history and introduction of the tile dam are described in detail in the blog post "The Great Migration of the tile dam in Jiangxi in Ming Dynasty", which also shows that the immigrants of the tile dam in Poyang Lake came from the surrounding areas of Poyang Lake. The population was small, and it was relatively concentrated in the Song Dynasty. So where did the ancestors of Xiang family in Waxieba, Poyang come from? The author consulted the local chronicles in Poyang area and found some traces of Xiang: According to Yiyang County Records, Xiang was a scholar of Yiyang in Song and Yuan Dynasties (118); According to the Records of Shangrao County, Xiang Shou was born in Shangrao, Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty (1 154). According to Records of Raozhou Prefecture in Tongzhi of Qing Dynasty 1 1 (1872) and Records of Poyang County in Jiangxi Province in the 22nd year of Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1683), Xiang Dan was in Shaoxing for two years (1 1683). These official documents show that Xiang lived around Poyang Lake in the Song Dynasty. The author consulted the genealogy of Xiangs in Runan, Wuyuan, and found some information about Xiangkangguo and Xiangdan. According to the genealogy of Xiangs in Runan, Xiangkangxi was a Song Huizong Zhenghe Jinshi in the seventh year of Emperor Kangxi (1 153), but there is no record of Xiangkangxi in Wuyuan County Records Jinshi List. Wuyuan's "Runan Shixiang Genealogy" records: Xiang Dan, Shi Xianzhi, Shi Gonglang, Taishou of Baling County, Yuezhou. In Wuyuan's Genealogy of Xiangs in Runan, it is also recorded that many ancestors moved to Poyang area in Song Dynasty, such as: the fifth moved to Baofeng in Xinzhou, Dexing, and Wenju moved to Leping in Jiangxi. Seventh: Shixian lives in Xinzhou (to Kangxi's grandfather); Shiyuan moved to Leping (recorded in the genealogy of Xiang family in Wangjiang, Taihu Lake, Anhui Province) and Shiliang moved to Poyang Lake; Rong Shi moved to Fuliang Changshan; Shi Lian moved to Fuliang Laoya Beach; Relocation, Raocheng (records of Zhaixi people in Anhui Province, ancestral home Raocheng, ancestor Mingyuan, was a Song Jinshi. The time is not much different from that recorded in Shangrao County Records. Whether it is the same person remains to be tested). . . . . . These records show that the Xiang family who lived in Poyang area in the Song Dynasty all came from Wuyuan. For various reasons, these ancestors left Wuyuan and lived in Poyang not far away (for example, Xiang Dan moved to Jinxian County in Nanchang because he was an official, and Xiang Dan was the ancestor of Xiang family in Nanchang). At the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty, due to government immigration, they moved to Anhui and Hubei. Based on the textual research of the above materials, most records show that Xiang's ancestors lived in Huizhou (Shexian and Wuyuan) during the Tang and Song Dynasties, from Waxieba, Poyang, Jiangxi or Raozhou in the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasties.
