Where is Constantinople?

Constantinople is the ancient name of Istanbul. It was once the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire).

Constantinople is located at the eastern end of the Balkan Peninsula, near the Bosphorus and the gateway of the Black Sea. As a transportation hub in Europe and Asia, its strategic position is very important. It is an ancient Greek immigrant city named Byzantium, which was built by the Greeks in 660 BC. However, in the Roman Empire before Constantine, it never received due attention. The Roman emperor Constantine the Great rebuilt and expanded Byzantium, and in 330 AD, he announced that he had moved the capital to Byzantium and renamed it Constantinople, which means "the city of Constantine". Don't call it "New Rome". From then on, the city began its glorious thousand-year history, and the name of Constantine was integrated with the city until 1453. In 395 AD, the Eastern and Western Roman empires formally split, and Constantinople, as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantine Empire), became the political, economic and cultural center of the Eastern Mediterranean. Constantinople was besieged by Turkish troops in early April 1453. On May 29th, Muhammad Ⅱ's army invaded the city, Constantinople fell and the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire) perished. Constantinople was occupied by the Ottoman Empire and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire, renamed Istanbul. Until the Byzantine Dynasty in the eastern half of the Roman Empire (1922), its neighbors were always surrounded by many hostile forces who coveted its wealth. However, when Rome fell, the Byzantine dynasty remained the same, and it remained one of the most prosperous civilizations in the world for more than 1000 years. For those small countries that are threatened by foreign invaders and rely on Byzantine dynasty to survive, it is like a lighthouse on the sea, shining with eternal light.
