At present, it is impossible for China citizens to travel to Thailand through landing visa. If you don't have a visa to Thailand, the border guards in China won't let you go, because they think you are suspected of smuggling, and you can only go to Thailand if you get a visa in China now. At present, the Thai government has implemented visa-free fee concessions for China tourists. Before March next year, tourist visas in Thailand will be free.

So if you are in Guiyang, you can contact the local travel agency or go to Taobao. For a tourist visa in Thailand, they will charge you a handling fee around 50 yuan.

And it is not recommended that you fly to Chiang Mai, because there are few domestic direct flights to Chiang Mai, so it is very expensive. You can go to Bangkok first, and then take the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

There is indeed a cheaper AirAsia in Guangzhou. I checked. Now AirAsia's round trip to Bangkok is about 1.400 yuan (including tax), but what about your fare from Guiyang to Guangzhou? You might as well go to Kunming by plane. Now the round trip from Kunming to Bangkok is about 1600~ 1800 (including tax), and it may even be cheaper.
