What does IELTS mean?

IELTS is an examination system for studying in Britain. It is the abbreviation of English International English Language Testing System, namely IELTS-the abbreviation of "International English Testing System", which is translated into Chinese as "IELTS". It is jointly organized by Cambridge University Examinations Board, British Council and Australian Agency for International Development. Its main purpose is to evaluate candidates' language ability to study, train or emigrate in English-speaking countries by using English as a tool. At present, IELTS scores have been widely recognized by universities and academic institutions in Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Canada and other countries. In the United States, more and more colleges and universities gradually take IELTS scores as one of the language conditions for applying for degrees. IELTS is also accepted by many important institutions, such as New Zealand Immigration Application Bureau, Australian Immigration and Cultural Affairs Bureau, Australian Medical Council and British Medical Association. Students studying in New Zealand don't take exams in China, so they have to go to New Zealand for short-term training, which takes about 30 weeks, that is, more than half a year. After the training, I will take the IELTS test in New Zealand, and those who are admitted to study in New Zealand will not be admitted to Canada. Generally speaking, students who have a good English foundation and are willing to learn may not pass the exam smoothly. This is because of the characteristics of IELTS. Due to the cultural differences in different countries, China people are in a relatively disadvantageous position when they take the IELTS test abroad. Therefore, when China candidates take the IELTS test abroad, they often spend a lot of energy to get to know people in the local cultural industry. If possible, you'd better take IELTS at home.

There are two kinds of IELTS: one is academic; The other is training, also called immigration examination. Candidates can choose the appropriate type according to their actual situation and the purpose of the exam. For example, academic subjects are suitable for candidates who apply for undergraduate or postgraduate courses in foreign universities. The second category is training, which is suitable for candidates who take immigration exams, apply for overseas training or work abroad. Immigration is different from academic examination, reading is different from composition, and listening and speaking questions are the same. Generally speaking, the immigration exam is simpler than the academic exam.

The IELTS test consists of four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Listening, reading, writing and examination time is 2 hours and 30 minutes; The oral exam is about 15 minutes. The test score is 9, and the overall IELTS score of college students is 5 to 7.5, which gives them a new understanding of the schools and courses applied by academic candidates. Immigration candidates can confirm the basic results required for immigration application through the relevant immigration offices. The exam results are valid for two years, and the exam will be taken after the expiration. There are rules for the IELTS test. If you fail, you can't take the exam again within 3 months. The second exam must be three months later, probably because the questions haven't changed in three months.

It is extremely important for applicants who plan to study in the UK to pay attention to and get a good English score. So what's the use of IELTS scores?

First of all, after getting IELTS scores, the school will reduce or exempt foreign language learning according to students' scores, while applicants with high school diplomas can be exempted from studying abroad for six months to one year after getting IELTS scores of 5, and directly enter the preparatory courses of foreign universities, thus saving a lot of money.

Secondly, if the IELTS score of college graduates reaches 5, it will reduce the time for foreign schools to review students' admission qualifications, thus greatly improving their competitiveness and greatly increasing the possibility of being admitted to excellent universities.

What is the difference between IELTS and TOEFL? The main differences between the two are as follows: First, the examination time is different, and the release time of the results is also different. The IELTS test is held every month in major cities in China, and the test results can be obtained within 2 to 3 weeks; However, TOEFL has only four exams a year, namely 1, 5, 8, 10, and it takes two to three months to get results. Compared with IELTS, TOEFL has fewer exams and slower grades. Second, the test objects are different. IELTS test adds oral test, while TOEFL test has no oral test. In addition to these two differences, the difficulty of the test questions can not be compared, because the principles of the two questions are different. Some students are used to not consulting TOEFL test results because they practice a lot. Only one transcript is given to the candidates and sent by the post office. The envelope should be carefully filled in by the candidates or their parents before the exam, and they will not be responsible for any loss. In addition, the most important difference is that IELTS emphasizes that candidates do not memorize, but require candidates to use the language flexibly. Most of them are closely related to the reality of life, especially focusing on speaking and writing. There are more subjective questions than TOEFL, and the forms are more diverse. Therefore, many people regard passing IELTS as one of the main means to measure their English application ability. However, it does not mean that TOEFL is not important. TOEFL is still scientific and rigorous. Exams are more difficult and require higher vocabulary, which is very important for laying a good foundation for English learning.

Generally speaking, social people with strong English practice ability and people working in foreign companies will have better IELTS scores and higher TOEFL scores for students. TOEFL only pays attention to theoretical tests and is not applicable to real life. Maybe you passed the TOEFL, but you may not speak English. Candidates admitted to IELTS can talk to foreigners in English as soon as they get on the plane.

So can IELTS pose a threat to TOEFL and even replace TOEFL? It can be clearly answered that this is impossible. After all, TOEFL is a practical English testing system that has been practiced for many years, while IELTS has just emerged and its application in various countries is limited. The IELTS test has a speaking part, which limits the number of applicants. Years of practice have proved that the authority of TOEFL is beyond doubt. The IELTS test focuses on your ability to survive in English-speaking countries, which is basically a life application category; TOEFL, on the other hand, focuses on the standardization, skill, pedantry and specialization of English. TOEFL is a compulsory test for studying in the United States and Canada. Most people in China still want to study in the United States, so the TOEFL test will last for a long time.

Recently, "IELTS" has been fired very hot, which has greatly exceeded the TOEFL test. This is mainly because more and more people in China are eager to study abroad, and IELTS has opened up and provided new ways for Chinese people to study abroad other than TOEFL. Especially when TOEFL scores are getting higher and higher, which makes many people insurmountable, many people turn their attention to IELTS.

It is very important for people who go abroad to learn English well at home first. Generally speaking, living abroad, people with good English are more likely to succeed because they have no difficulty in communication, while people with poor English are more depressed and insecure. There are many channels to learn English in China, and the cost will be lower. But the tuition fee after studying English for one year is amazing, so learning English well in China will bring you many benefits. The IELTS test results show that the conditions for going abroad are all. Some people say that IELTS scores above 6 can be exempted from the test interview, but the embassy has never said that high scores can be exempted from the test interview. Even if you get 9 points, you sometimes need an interview. Do you want an interview? For example, the applicant's education, work experience, the contents of various certificates, and the location of the notary office of the notarial certificate. The immigration officer can call you for an interview at any time if he needs to know more about any of them. Once the immigration officer decides to interview, the IELTS score will be overwhelming, and there is no fairness, unfairness and reasonableness. However, candidates who go abroad through some large legally confirmed intermediaries can be exempted from trial interviews because of the high credibility of the intermediaries; Intermediaries and individuals who do not follow the rules are not entitled to interview-free treatment.

It's hard to find a job in China, especially when they were fired as soon as they graduated from college. More and more people will take the IELTS test and go abroad. However, with the increase of the number of candidates, the examination questions will become more and more difficult, and the IELTS test will be as difficult as the TOEFL test.

IELTS International English Proficiency Test is jointly organized by the Local Examinations Committee of Cambridge University, IDP Education of Australia and British Council. 1990 was promoted in China in April. By February of 1997, there were 2 10 IELTS test sites in the world, covering 105 cities.

The purpose is to test the English level of students who are going to enter universities and colleges with English as the main teaching language or immigrants from English-speaking countries (currently referred to as Commonwealth countries).

Many universities in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, North America and other countries have adopted and recognized this language testing system.

Immigration bureaus in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries regard this test result as the only criterion to measure English language ability of skilled immigrants and other immigrants.

Schools and training programs in these countries, as well as colleges and universities in many countries, accept the test results and set different standards for passing the results.

IELTS includes two categories:

At present, general training is more suitable for immigrants.

At present, academics are more suitable for studying abroad.

No matter what kind of exam, no matter what purpose you use this score for, all similar (G or A) exams use the same test paper at the same time. The exam doesn't involve your professional knowledge, only your English level. Because this exam has oral items, it will be more credible than TOEFL.

Generally speaking, candidates who have a basic knowledge of intermediate English can take the exam after two or three months by studying IELTS reference books or reviewing training courses before the exam.

For China candidates, the vocabulary requirements of IELTS test are not high, and they are mainly based on life. However, the answering skills and traditional English questions are completely different from TOEFL and domestic English tests (CET-4 and CET-6), so it is very important to master the questions and answer them quickly.
