John Lone, a Chinese-American actor, was born in Hong Kong. He later immigrated to the United States and continued to study acting, dance and martial arts.

He is the first Chinese-American actor to be nominated for the American Golden Globe Award, and he is also the only Chinese-American actor to be nominated for the American Golden Globe Award twice. He was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1986 and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in 1988.

He became famous in 1984 when he appeared in the Hollywood movies "The Iceman" and "Year of the Dragon". In 1987, he starred in "The Last Emperor" directed by famous Italian director Bertolucci, playing the leading role Puyi. The film caused a sensation in the world of cinema and won nine Oscars in 1988; his superb acting skills made him famous in the international film community and has remained famous ever since. He is also the first Chinese-American spokesperson for Rolex watches in history. In 1997, he won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Hollywood Capri Film Festival.

He is also the only Chinese actor so far who has made his fortune directly in Hollywood and quickly entered the mainstream of Hollywood, making him accepted by mainstream culture.
