Yuanping is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province.
In Yuanding of the Western Han Dynasty for three years, it belonged to Taiyuan County. In 1949, it belonged to Xin county area. In 1958, Luanxian County was abolished and Yuanping County was established, which belongs to the northern Shanxi area. In December 1959, the resident of Yuanping County was moved from Chengguan to Yuanping Town. In December 2, Xinzhou District was abolished and Xinzhou City was established. Yuanping belongs to the Haihe River Basin of the Loess Plateau, with a mountainous plateau with high east and west sides and low middle. The highest elevation in the territory is 2393 meters.
Yuanping is located in the north-central part of Shanxi Province, bordering Wutai County in the east, ningwu county in the west, Xinfu District and Dingxiang County in the south, and Daixian County and Shuocheng District in Shuozhou City in the north. Climate: Yuanping belongs to a temperate monsoon climate zone. Due to the obvious relief, the climate in different parts of the country is very different. The annual rainfall is about 5 mm, the frost period is from early October to mid-April, and the frost-free period is 16 days.
Hydrology: Hutuo River originates from Taixi Mountain in fan shi, enters Yuanping from Daixian County, and flows through 56 villages in 8 towns, including Yangou, Sulongkou, Fuyang, Xizhen, Zhongyang, Zigan, Xinyuan and Wangjiazhuang, with a total length of 44.6 kilometers. The main tributaries are Yangwu River, Beiyun River, Changle River and Yongxing.
