Frank Starr's Slovenian Country House

Frank Sterle, an immigrant from Ljubljana, Slovenia, established his Slovenian country house at 1954. Stell built a small building on East 55th Street with several picnic tables and only one waitress-she had to bring a small menu because she didn't print it out-and successfully started a lasting business. Because this restaurant is famous for its world-class polka dance performance in Cleveland, Stell decided to build another one on this building until it looks like the Alps valley where Stell lived as a child. The building has an inclined mortise ceiling. A deer head hangs above the entrance, and the wall is decorated with Slovenian murals, which makes the atmosphere of this restaurant still vivid in Cleveland. After Frank 1986 died, the restaurant was taken over by Italian and German immigrants Mike Longo and Margo Glinschi respectively. Although the ownership has changed, this restaurant continues to serve traditional Slovenian dishes, with polka dancing every week. The favorite menu items are still sausages, chicken peppers, cabbage, klobase and pickles. Famous artists who have performed in Starr include Joey Miskulin, Johnny Vadnal, Lou Tereba, King of Waltz, and Frankie jankovic, King of Polka. In 20 17, Stell no longer provided lunch and dinner, but became a special activity center.
