The main dialects of Jingjiang dialect

Jingjiang has Lao 'an dialect, Chongming dialect and Jiasha dialect belonging to Wu dialect, and Shashang dialect, Taixing dialect and Rugao dialect belonging to Jianghuai dialect. After "sandy land" became land, rich households came to sell sandy land, build houses and build polder fields for farming. Most of their tenants moved from Yangzhong Island and still maintain the same customs and habits as Yangzhong people. Yangzhong people moved to Jingjiang, mostly during the Jiaqing and Daoguang years of the Qing Dynasty. And the number is large, and the residence is concentrated. Dialects brought by this kind of plate migration can be quite unified, and it is easy to keep the phonetic system basically consistent with the old dialect. The language of Yangzhong immigrants is called "Shashang dialect" in Jingjiang, which occupies an authoritative position in Shashang area of Jingjiang. Anyone who moves into Shashang from other places (especially in northern dialect areas) will move closer to Shashang dialect. For example, in the north of Taihe Town, many people's ancestors moved from Taixing. Now in the memory of the older generation, the initials of rice are all pronounced "T". Today, they and their children and grandchildren are talking about authentic Sha dialect.

Shashang dialect used by hundreds of thousands of people in Jingjiang Shashang is basically the same as Yangzhong dialect, which is the main source of immigrants, and belongs to Tongtai dialect in Jianghuai dialect (also known as Rutai dialect, whose biggest feature is that the ancient voiced initials are pronounced as aspirated and unvoiced). Due to the differences in rivers and administrative divisions, there are some differences in vocabulary between Shashang dialect and Yangzhong dialect. Others, such as Taixing Wei who used to cross the river and Rugao Wei in Dongxing, generally do not use Taixing dialect or Rugao dialect to communicate now. In addition, the ancestors of the people along the Yangtze River in Jiangfeng Village and Jiangfang Village are said to be soldiers from thirteen provinces who came to Beijing in the early years of Guangxu to station the batteries in Tiansheng Port and Shiwei Port. Now there is a village called Xubao, but the dialect is mainly Shashang dialect.
