Why did Shandong people choose the northeast instead of Jiangsu and Zhejiang in their eastward journey?

Because the northeast was vast and sparsely populated at that time, there were large areas of land for people to develop. On the other hand, the development potential of Jiangsu and Zhejiang is not as high as that of Northeast China because of its early development time.

Speaking of going to Kanto, I first learned it from a TV series. The name of this TV play is Go to Kanto. It tells the story of the disaster that happened in Qilu in recent years, and people had to move from their hometown to the northeast in order to survive. Through what the hero, Shandong Hanzi, saw and heard in the Northeast, we learned the indomitable historical story of Shandong people's struggle with their fate.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Qing Dynasty was corrupt and in jeopardy. Peasant uprisings were launched all over the dynasty, and Qilu land was among them. In addition, Qilu was catching up with natural disasters at that time, and farmers had no living space, so they had to go to the northeast to make a living. This has also become one of the few great human migrations in the history of our country. According to statistics, there were more than 40 million people from Shandong to Northeast China. Then why didn't those who ventured to Kanto go to richer Jiangsu and Zhejiang, but to the uninhabited northeast?

First, because the land in Northeast China is fertile, vast and sparsely populated, there are large areas of uncultivated land for people to develop. After all, land has always been the most important thing for farmers in China. With land, there is enough food to survive. On the other hand, in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, due to its long history and high degree of development, there is no surplus land left for immigrants to develop. Therefore, for refugees in Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang are not a good place for immigrants.

Second, because the northeast and Shandong belong to the north, there is little difference in diet, customs and personality, which can make Shandong immigrants adapt to local life quickly. Moreover, due to the similarity of culture and personality, the integration of people in the two regions can be accelerated without social contradictions. Jiangsu and Zhejiang belong to the south, which is different from the broad character of the north. Southerners are more elegant, beautiful and wise. It is precisely because of this personality difference that Shandong people are more willing to choose to develop in the northeast than the rich Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions.
