Basic situation of the fifth administrative region of Jiangxi Province

Although the fifth administrative region of Jiangxi Province is only14 (1935-1949), it is a useful attempt to set up administrative divisions strictly according to "mountains and rivers" because all counties in this area are located in the north of Huaiyu Mountain and east of Poyang Lake.

The main body of this administrative region is Raozhou government in feudal times. The original seven counties in Raozhou (Poyang, Fuliang, Dexing, Leping, Yugan, Wannian and Anren) are located in Anren (now yujiang county County) in Xinjiang River Basin, and the remaining six counties belong to Poyang Lake Basin (also called Raohe). As the main body of the fifth administrative region, they have always maintained the influence of Raozhou culture in this area. The other four counties belonged to three places in feudal times: Wuyuan county belonged to Huizhou prefecture, Duchang county belonged to Nankang prefecture, and pengze county and Hukou counties belonged to Jiujiang prefecture.

According to Fang, this area consists of two major dialect areas: Gan dialect area and Hui dialect area. Fuliang (except Jingdezhen), Wuyuan and Dexing are all Hui-speaking areas, and the remaining seven counties and magistrate Jingdezhen of Fuliang County all use Gan dialect. Jingdezhen in Fuliang County, as the resident of the office of administrative inspector, reflects the dialect usage in this area.

It is noted that Wuyuan was first assigned to Jiangxi (1934- 1947) because of the convenience of mountains and rivers, and most of the time after Wuyuan was assigned to Jiangxi, it was under the jurisdiction of the Fifth Administrative Region of Jiangxi Province. Because Wuyuan is very convenient to the political, economic and cultural centers of the region-Jingdezhen and Fuliang County, it has promoted the commercial and cultural exchanges and commercial immigrants between the two places. Wuyuan people in Jingdezhen have improved their status in Huizhou because of their geographical convenience. Huizhou people who originally lived in Jingdezhen were headed by Yixian, but this situation gradually reversed after Wuyuan moved to Jiangxi. Shi Weiming, a native of Wuyuan, held the Jingdezhen Chamber of Commerce for more than ten years, which is the side evidence of this change.
