Why does Cangnan speak Minnan dialect?

Immigrants. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, a large number of immigrants from Zhangzhou and Quanzhou in Fujian entered southern Zhejiang and Yixing in Jiangsu, which was called "Minnan dialect". Mainly distributed in the south of Wenzhou, and migrated to Changxing, Anji, Lin 'an in the north of Zhejiang and Yixing in Jiangsu, all the way to Guangde, Ningguo, langxi, eastern Wuhu, Shangrao, Yushan, Guangfeng and the northern border of Pucheng in Fujian. Many of these immigrants moved because the Qing government expropriated land after the Taiping War and were abandoned by soldiers. Therefore, Cangnan People's Congress mostly speaks Min dialect in southern Zhejiang, which was brought by Putian immigrants to southern Zhejiang.
