The Historical Evolution of Yinchuan Bell and Drum Tower
① The Bell and Drum Tower abutment was built in the first year of Qing Daoguang (182 1), presided over by Zhao, the magistrate of Ningxia, and inscribed with stone inscriptions in calligraphy.
② In the thirty-fourth year of Guangxu (1908), local gentry and businessmen in Ningxia donated money to build a three-story beam frame on the platform, but it was stopped due to lack of funds.
③ 19 17 (in 6 years of the Republic of China) was rebuilt by Yu Dingming, the governor of Ningxia, and the corners were covered with coupons.
④ 1926, Ningxia Teke, the first party organization in Ningxia, is located in the northeast corner of the Bell and Drum Tower.
⑤1September 23, 949, Ningxia was liberated. On September 26th, Yang Dezhi, commander of the 19th Corps of China People's Liberation Army, Li Zhimin, political commissar, and local celebrities in Ningxia jointly reviewed the ceremony of China People's Liberation Army entering the city on the Bell and Drum Tower.
⑥ After the founding of New China, the people's government reinforced and maintained the Bell and Drum Tower for many times. A circular flower bed was built around the bell and drum tower, and a party history showroom was established upstairs. Bell and Drum Tower is a key cultural relic protection unit in Ningxia and Yinchuan.
II. Introduction to Yinchuan Bell and Drum Tower:
Yinchuan Bell and Drum Tower, also known as Cross Drum Tower and Four Drum Towers, was built in the first year of Qing Daoguang (182 1). The building is located at the intersection of Jiefang East Street and Gulou North and South Street in Yinchuan City, with a total height of 36 meters and an area of 576 square meters. The Bell and Drum Tower is an ancient building that embodies the architectural style of the Qing Dynasty. As one of the landmark buildings in Yinchuan, it is a key cultural relic protection unit in Ningxia and Yinchuan.
The bell and drum tower consists of a pedestal, a pavilion and a turret. The abutment is square, with a side length of 24 meters and a height of 8.5 meters, and is made of masonry. There is a 5-meter-wide doorway around the platform, which is connected with Jiefang East-West Street and Gulou North-South Street. There are stone carvings all around the cave, with "welcome guests" in the east, "smoke coming" in the south, "coolness" in the west and "arch pole" in the north. There are coupon doors on both sides of the East Gate, and the south coupon door is titled "He Kun", which has an ear room; From Beipiaomen, you can climb to the abutment along the stone steps of the tunnel. There is a three-story double-eaved pavilion at the top of the cross rest mountain in the center of the platform, and each pavilion is surrounded by a circular corridor. Climb the pavilion, overlook the railing, and have a panoramic view of Yinchuan. The roof of the pavilion is decorated with dragon heads and lotus beads in the middle, showing the trend of double dragons playing with pearls, which has a unique flavor. Looking up at the bell and drum tower, it overhangs the eaves and flies over the ridge, towering and exquisite, vivid and spectacular, which embodies the wisdom and superb architectural skills of the working people in ancient China.
