The convening of the international conference on historical science.
The instrumentalization of history and historians in modern society, 3. The critical function of modern history. The symposium is also very distinctive, with 20 topics, such as historical evaluation in the 20 th century; Memory and recognition; How different societies construct and deal with their past; Scientific invention (dissemination and acceptance of scientific knowledge); Judicial theory and practice; Islamic society in history; Missionaries, modernization, colonization and decolonization; Religion and gender; Family structure and demography: comparison between Eurasian societies: regionalization and regionalization; Writing and reading habits since ancient times; The latest development of environmental history; 16, the way of knowledge exchange in the 20th century, and so on. The round-table forum has more topics: media revolution, history teaching, encounter and confrontation between European and non-European legal systems, gender, race, xenophobia and nationalism, history of diseases, history of file opening and productism (1990-2000), and a review of works on the history of the cold war in recent 50 years, which fully reflects the direction of international historians in recent years. British historian O 'Brien on the first theme "Is world history possible?" This report helps us to understand the new trends and existing problems in the study of world history in western academic circles. "Is world history possible?" This question seems childish and ridiculous to us. But in the eyes of western historians, world history is still a controversial subject, and it is much more difficult for most of them to get rid of "western centralism" than for us. But in the past decade or two, things have changed. Professor O 'Brien first listed the world history works and viewpoints of Herodotus and Sima Qian in ancient times, Bishop Orosius and Otto in the middle ages, Voltaire and Gottingen School in modern times, McNeil and Stavri Anoos in contemporary times from the perspective of historical development, and thought that they represented the world historiography tradition of expanding the field of historical research and attaching importance to other cultures and nations. Some postmodernists worry that the revival of "global history" will re-emphasize the progress of the West in science and technology, military strength and economic development. O 'Brien pointed out that this concern is not groundless, because many historians are still misled by several incorrect views: first, they believe that Europe's leading position in science, technology and economy in the19-20th century can be traced back to centuries before 18 15; Second, Europe's political, legal and cultural heritage is particularly conducive to its economic development and scientific and technological development (the so-called "special theory"); Third, it is believed that Asians have been living and working in an unfavorable environment, which has long bound and hindered the economic development of Asia. In other words, because of its "special" conditions, the West has always been in a leading position in history, which is beyond the reach of the East. These one-sided views have been opposed by eastern and western historians in recent years.
Criticism and refutation. Finally, O 'Brien predicted that historical comparison and cross-cultural international exchange research would be the main styles of world historiography in the 2 1 century. As long as handled properly, these two methods "will certainly deepen our understanding of heterogeneous cultures, meet the requirements of global integration and interdependence, and promote our understanding and appreciation of the colorful contributions of various ethnic groups and cultures in history." In 2005, the 20th International Congress of Historical Science was held for the first time in countries outside Europe and America. Although the conference was held in Sydney, Australia, rather than in developing countries such as Asia, the organizers made it clear that it was of unusual significance to hold the conference in Australia, which showed that the International Congress of Historical Science attached importance to the historical research of third world countries. The topic of this meeting also reflects the common concern of the world historians and the history of the relationship between developing countries and modernization.
The 20th International Conference on Historical Science identified three major themes, namely, the relationship between man and nature in history, myth and history, and the international order of war, peace, society and history. These three themes reflect the emphasis on traditional topics and emphasize the needs of today's times. "Man and nature" includes ecological history, environmental history and so on, which is a very concerned issue at present. "Myth and history" contains a lot of traditional basic topics. At present, a large number of archaeological materials and declassified materials provide a research basis for studying traditional unsolved historical mysteries. "War, peace, social and historical international order" includes both traditional topics and new research topics that urgently need to be studied and answered in today's era.
This congress attaches great importance to the history of Asian, African and Latin American countries. Among the six symposiums organized by the conference, except one, which is about the position of China and Europe in the history of the East and the West from 1000 to 2000, the rest are all about the history of American countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. As for the study of China's history and modernization, the conference also set up a sub-forum, which shows that the organizers of the conference attach importance to the study of China's history. brief introduction

A total of 122 meetings were held in this conference, including two special meetings proposed by the organizing Committee of the conference. Among these two symposiums, one is "Modernization of China, India and Japan: A Comparative Study" organized and hosted by Professor Li Bozhong in cooperation with Japanese scholar Futong Junichi and Indian scholar Prasannan Parthasarathi. More than 50 scholars from all over the world attended the seminar. At the beginning of 2009, after analysis and discussion, China Historical Society held that China had made remarkable achievements in the past 30 years of reform and opening up. The success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games has a far-reaching impact. During the global economic crisis, China's strength and confidence in economic development inspired the whole world. Obviously, the development of China has created sufficient conditions for bidding for the International Conference on Historical Science. Therefore, China Historical Society should formally bid for the 22nd Congress in 20 15 at its 2nd1congress in 20 10.
When discussing the bid, China Historical Society thought that Jinan and Shandong University should be the first choice if the 22nd Congress could be held in China. Shandong is the hometown of Confucius and Mencius and the birthplace of Chinese culture. In recent years, Shandong's economic development has also been at the forefront of the country. Shandong University is famous for its "literature and history", and its research in many fields is at the forefront of domestic and even international academic circles. Historians from all over the world are invited to discuss the historical and cultural issues in Shandong, so that they can correctly understand the history and reality of China through Shandong, further understand and publicize Shandong, and create international public opinion for the transformation from a big cultural province to a strong cultural province. On February 6th, 2009, Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, accompanied by Wang Yuji, Dean of the School of History and Culture, paid a special visit to Mr. Zhang Haipeng, Executive Vice President of China Historical Society (now President of China Historical Society). After discussion, the two sides agreed that the 22nd International Congress of Historical Science applied for in 20 15 should be held in Shandong University.
It is of great significance to actively bid for the 22nd International Congress of Historical Science, which is not only a great opportunity for China culture to go global, but also an important measure to implement the report of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and enhance the "soft power" of China culture. By then, more than 2,000 top historians from all over the world will gather in Jinan, which will also be a major cultural event in Shandong. It will not only greatly enhance the international influence of Shandong Province and Shandong University, but also greatly enhance the influence of Qilu culture and Confucianism. At the same time, it will have an immeasurable and far-reaching impact on developing Shandong's tourism market and promoting Shandong's economy to the world. Therefore, this work has been highly valued and supported by the State Council and Shandong Province. Governor Jiang Daming personally signed a personal letter to the Executive Committee and Executive Chairman of the International Congress of Historical Science.
Over the past year, under the leadership of the China Historical Society, the School of History and Culture of Shandong University has worked closely with the secretariat of the China Historical Society to solidly promote the preparations for the bid, and has successively completed the preparation of relevant bid presentation documents and the production of relevant publicity videos and brochures. On July 12 this year, President Xu Xianming held the last bidding meeting with Mr. Zhang Haipeng and others in Beijing, and made careful arrangements for the specific matters of bidding.
From August 2/KLOC-0 to August 28, a delegation of 8 members from the Historical Society of China * * */KLOC-0 went to Amsterdam to attend the 2 1 International Congress on Historical Science, and successfully completed the bid for the 22nd Congress. Professor Wang Yuji and Professor Jiang Sheng from Shandong University attended all the activities of the meeting as representatives of the China delegation. At the reception held by the China delegation on August 24th, they introduced the situation of Jinan City and Shandong University in Shandong Province to the heads of delegations and the Executive Committee of the International Historical Society, and answered relevant questions. At this reception, the large-scale album "Shandong O Jinan O Shandong University: The Bid Site for the 22nd International Congress of Historical Science" designed and produced by Shandong University was welcomed and well received, which had a positive impact on the voting of the Executive Committee on August 26th. During the meeting, Professor Wang Yuji and Professor Jiang Sheng were also invited to attend a reception hosted by the mayor of Amsterdam and called on Professor Brommundt, President of the Dutch Historical Society. At the summary meeting of China delegation on August 28th, Zhang Haipeng, head of the delegation, fully affirmed the contribution of Shandong University in the bid.
Five years later, in 20 15, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 22nd international conference on historical science will be held in the newly-built gymnasium of Shandong University, and the main venue and most of the sub-venues of the conference will be located in various campuses of Shandong University. By then, it is estimated that more than 2,000 foreign historians will attend the conference, and many students from Shandong University will attend the conference as volunteers.
