[Edit this paragraph] Historical evolution
Lianyuan was originally a place where ethnic minorities lived together. According to legend, the ancestors were descendants of Pangu, belonging to Sanmiao Jiuli Group, and came from Zhuan Xu, one of the five emperors. In a long historical period, our ancestors fought fiercely with Huaxia and Dongyi in the Yellow River valley, but in the end they all failed and most of them were forced to move south. At present, many ethnic minorities in Guizhou and Yunnan are descendants of immigrants here, and the rest have been assimilated by the Han people in the Central Plains (especially Jiangxi people) who have been moving southward since the Western Han Dynasty, forming a national pattern in which the Han people in Lianyuan account for 99.9% today. Lantian in Lianyuan City is an ancient town with a history of more than 600 years. As early as the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was an important commercial port connecting central Hunan and western Hunan. Pot-making, paper-making, printing and dyeing and other handicrafts are widely known. During the Anti-Japanese War, more than ten large and medium-sized schools, such as National Normal University, moved to Lantian, where culture, education and commerce flourished for a while, which made this ancient town win the reputation of "Little Nanjing" and Lantian became the cultural and educational center of southern China at that time. Mr. Qian Zhongshu's Fortress Besieged was created with Lantian as the background when he was teaching here. It is precisely because of this profound cultural gene that Lianyuan's cultural education has lasted for a long time, and talents in politics, culture, economy, military and other fields have emerged in large numbers. Lianyuan has successively won the titles of "national advanced city in culture" and "national advanced city in sports", and has been rated as "national double-support model city" for three consecutive times.
