"Master, how can people be happy?

Buddhist scholar Tang worked as the director of a military hospital for many years. Later, he taught in various Buddhist colleges and wrote many Buddhist works. Because of different ideas and styles, he always criticized me more than praised me, but once, he happily praised me for handling things easily. I've been criticized and praised in my life, and I don't mind much, but I'm flattered by Tang Lao's words. Then, I think about my life. It's really in line with Zen master's poems. There is no trace everywhere. I treat people with dignity. This sentence has the same effect as the bamboo shadow sweeping away the dust and the wild goose crossing the cold pool without trace, that is to say, the past is forgotten, and never cares about gains and losses, or nostalgia or regret. Tang Lao used four words to describe my way of dealing with people, and I think I can bear it.

Willing to take responsibility, find things difficult.

I remember when I first came to Taiwan Province Province, I worked as a water bearer, porter, rickshaw puller and buyer in a temple. The residents in the temple looked at me as if I were doing any heavy work at home, so they asked me to do anything that needed hard work. In fact, every time I pull the bike up the mountain, I often feel dizzy and vomit because I have exhausted all my strength, but because I am always ashamed and grateful, I can generate a steady stream of strength to serve the public. More than forty years ago, in addition to editing magazines for senior educators, I often wrote Buddhist articles for other newspapers and periodicals. My elders think that I am diligent in writing and don't charge a penny, so I even do all the work such as distribution and mailing. In fact, I often search my heart for writing and stay up all night, but because my heart is full of a sense of mission to promote Buddhism and benefit students, no matter how much work I am given, I am the same. Later, I often spread Buddhism in the north and south, using trains and cars as offices and preparing manuscripts, so I was always happy to talk about it everywhere. Believers think I am witty and easy, and they are more willing to invite me to explain. In fact, in the first few years, I often worked hard for a lecture and thought about it every day. Now I am over 70 years old, and I often feel tired and thirsty when I talk for a day. But every time I see the eyes of believers eager for Buddhism, I forget all the hardships and still work hard and enjoy it.

Some people say: if you want to have a hard time with anyone, just tell him to do education, edit magazines and build Dojo. However, over the years, I have also done my education, compiled magazines and built Dojo. There are different problems, some of which are artificial obstacles. For example, the registration license of Fushan Temple was repeatedly delayed because the relevant supervisors kicked the ball at each other, and it was not approved until eight years later; When Xilai Temple was first built, it was protested for rejecting pagans. Some suffered from natural disasters, such as floods and landslides when typhoon Foguang Mountain came, and the collapse of the wall bricks of Blissful Residence [1], which often destroyed the construction for many years. Have a plenty of take over others can't do business, such as receiving Guo Fu temple, Fu Yuan temple, just know to repay the debts of the predecessors. All this is because I am a little self-motivated and willing, so although there are many difficulties, I don't think it is difficult; Because I value friendship and affinity very much, I am willing to bear the hardships; Because I am willing to follow fate and happiness, even if I am busy, I don't feel too busy; Because I am willing to endure and bear, I don't feel empty and powerless even if I have nothing. In short, no matter what complicated things come to me, because I am willing and have no regrets, I can take it lightly.

There is no inexhaustible power in my heart.

Manjusri Bodhisattva takes inaction as the only way, Hui Kai Zen master takes inaction as the only way, Master Huineng is not proud of his fellow students, and Daoshu Zen master does not yield to the magical power of the outside world. Nothing is the most wonderful truth in the world! I don't know how many thorny events I have encountered in my life, such as the forced demolition of Shoushan Temple after it was built. Han min wants to cross Foguang Mountain as an industrial road, and he does not hesitate to use violence to control violence; The Guanyin incident in Taipei Park 7 is about to trigger a conflict between politics and religion. When Buddha tooth came to Taiwan, pagans incited Christians to make trouble and obstruct them. In the face of these sudden dangers, I sometimes convince people by reasoning, sometimes by static braking, sometimes by sincere influence, and sometimes by kindness. In short, I have no specific way, but because my heart is always empty, just like a mirror, it can generate infinite power and easily control all the tricks.

Fifty years ago, no mage wanted to stay in Yilan for a long time, so I volunteered to preach the Dharma. Only when I got there did I know that not only the temple was full of military families, monks and customs, but also the believers covered three generations. Some of them have been closely related to temples for a long time, but they are not necessarily exposed to Buddhism. Some are loyal, but have strong personalities; Some men are particularly strong-willed because they are educated by Japanese militarism; Some are young and lively, and are not easily accepted by conservative and mature believers. After staying for more than ten years, I not only lived in harmony with the local people, but also promoted my belief in Buddhism, making Yilan the cradle of Buddhism development in Taiwan. At that time, the believers in Yilan still cared about me until now. When they heard that I had something to do, they were more enthusiastic and anxious than anyone else. Foguang University in Jiaoxi, for example, has made great contributions from land acquisition to construction projects, from communicating with villagers to contacting the government. Many people are surprised to ask me what methods I used in those years, so that I can always have an easy image in their minds. I think it's probably because I have mastered the experience of the elderly, the stability of the middle-aged and the strength of the young!

Speak out according to the opportunity, be tolerant and kind.

Later, I built Dojo all over the country, and there were countless types of believers, but I still wanted to be generous: when the soldiers came, I told him about military law; Is a businessman, I told him about the merchant law; It's a child, and I told him about the Children's Law. It's an old man, and I told him about the law of the elderly; It was a woman who came, and I told him about the female method; It's disability I will talk to him about the disability law. In addition, for those who like to practice, I hold meditation classes and Buddhist readings. For those who pursue wisdom, I offer Buddhist classes and reading clubs; For those who are good at art and literature, I hold skill classes and writing clubs; For those who like charity, I set up a service team and a relief society. In short, I should take this opportunity to say that believers can bring Buddhism to their daily lives; I look at the machine and make fun of teaching, so that everyone can give full play to their strengths, so it is easy for me to promote Buddhism.

As the saying goes, it is better to bring a group of soldiers than a group of monks. Although monks are aloof and indifferent and unwilling to ask for anything, relatively speaking, because they don't seek fame or profit, it is sometimes difficult to move with emotion and reason. Therefore, educating family and disciples is not as easy as leading employees in secular enterprises. And I, in addition to millions of believers all over the world, have received more than 1000 monks and disciples. Not only do I have to deal with endless legal affairs every day, but I also have to deal with emotional problems, reading problems, practice problems, spreading dharma problems, recovering from illness and asking for leave for them. Every time I host an education forum, someone always asks me how to lead so many disciples. In fact, as Vimalakīrti's classic says, disciples work hard and do whatever they want. Although there is a lot of dust and labor, if we can transform it at will, we can easily turn our troubles into bodhi and ignorance into wisdom. Disciples are also, no matter how many people there are, how many problems there are, because I can keep up with the pulse of the times ideologically; In terms of methods, I can teach students according to their roots; I can be sympathetic and persuasive about what disciples are not as good as Dharma. I can tolerate and forgive what they don't understand, so no matter how stubborn they are, I can easily transform them.

Division of labor and cooperation can achieve twice the result with half the effort.

The crisis of believers' marriage, I can win love with a love; The conflict between artists, I use the story of immortal teenagers who swallow their pride to resolve; The knot of politicians, I take a step back to persuade peace; As an immigrant, I use the metaphor of death to soothe the pain of believers losing their loved ones. Other intractable diseases, such as the property disputes of believers, children's problems and Bo Shi's misunderstanding among the teaching staff, can be solved, because I can understand the crux of the problem and give it to you directly.

I often take part in various activities and Dharma meetings, such as the Dharma lecture at the Shayenan Gymnasium in Malaysia and the Pledging Movement for Compassionate and Caring People, with 80,000 participants each. Every year, lectures held in sun yat-sen memorial hall and the Hong Kong Gymnasium in Hung Hom are also attended by tens of thousands of listeners. Every year, thousands of delegates and spectators from all over the world attend the World Congress and the Board of Supervisors of the International Buddha Light Association. Garden parties are often held in various places to raise funds for the establishment of Foguang University, ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. Many people asked me curiously: How can we hold so many activities and solve the problems of food and shelter for so many people at the same time? I think the most important secret is that we usually cultivate talents, plan carefully in advance, hold meetings to discuss opinions and know how to cooperate, so no matter how many people come and how tight the time is, we can achieve the effect of lifting weights easily and getting twice the result with half the effort.
