-Read "The Cabin on Mango Street"

The author Cisneros is the daughter of Mexican immigrants. In the 1960s, she grew up in an immigrant community in Chicago and went to college with government funding. Later, because of his writing talent, he was recommended to the internationally renowned graduate writing class of the University of Iowa. After graduation, she worked as a middle school teacher and college counselor, and had many contacts with poor minority students. Seeing their predicament and confusion, I also thought about my own growth. Thus, the hut on Mango Street was born.

language

Muttering is one of the ways of existence of Espe Lanza, a young girl. "Espe Lanza" means "hope" in English and "sadness, waiting" in Spanish. "A cloudy color." This is a meaningful symbol. As immigrants to the United States, there is a painful separation, resistance and painful compromise between ethnic traditional culture and the real world of language. This separation is sensitive. As for seeing a movie "One Ball Becomes Famous", I feel that the protagonist in the film is more or less similar to the people in Mango Street. They have to struggle to escape from the colorful mud, even with the most fragile pens and poems. Espe Lanza wrote a poem (see Natural Beauty): "I want to be/a wave in the sea, a cloud in the wind,/but I am just a little me. /One day I want to/jump out of my body ... "Still," you will always be in Mango Street, and you can't forget what you know. You can't forget who you are. " "Do you remember to come back. For those who don't leave as easily as you do. "

The book is full of seductive metaphors, wit and humor, and every word appears like a directional arrow, pointing directly at the bull's-eye: "thick lips like ice cream", "her smell is pink" and "there are so many weeds like squinting stars" ... These words make cisneros build a fairy tale kingdom no less than her favorite masterpiece "Adventures in Alice's Mirror".

The story behind

The hut on Mango Street consists of 44 short monologues, each of which revolves around a different topic. Those chapters or articles are about the experiences that left a mark on Espe's heart, or around something or someone, or about hair (section 2), clouds (section 15), trees (section 29) and so on.

Although the hut on Mango Street is made up of some short festivals, they are internally related. Together, they tell the growth story of a Mexican girl. In the book My Name, she explained that her long polysyllabic name came from Spanish, which was considered "very funny by students in American schools. The syllables seem to be made of iron, which will hurt the upper jaw of her mouth". "But in Spanish, my name is made up of softer things, such as silver, which is not as rich as my sister's name." She knows very well that she belongs to the "brown person".

In American society, where racial differences and contradictions are very prominent and sensitive to skin color and racial issues, being a descendant of Latin American immigrants often means poverty, discrimination and cultural estrangement and loss of this family.

When he first arrived at Mango Street, Xiao's first friend was "Cathy the Cat". Little Cathy's cats are together, and the accounts are not particular. Little Kathy is very friendly to the new girl next door and takes the initiative to introduce local shops and workshops. However, she will also boast that "I am a distant cousin of the French Queen", and those economists will bluntly say that the arrival of people like Codero (non-white) has led to the decline of the class in urban communities. So her family will move to the north, and the new couple will be warned not to play with Lucy's sisters who are "sloppy as mice". (Note: In Chicago, because of cultural, economic and racial differences, relatively poor Hispanic immigrants flock to a certain community, and whites who once lived here will choose to move, realizing the contradictions, disadvantages and prejudices of the white-adult society. However, no matter how much pressure there is, how many setbacks and injuries there are, Espe Langsha will break through the obstacles of masonry and grow tenaciously like four thin trees near her home. She talks to them every day: "Their strength is a secret. They put their fierce roots into the ground, they grow up and down, they grasp the soil with bearded toes, and they bite the sky with fierce teeth ... ") Espe Lanza Jr., who can think about the secrets of trees in pain, must be invincible. She wants to leave Mango Street one day when she grows up. Leaving means a more meaningful return. Scholar Huang Mei commented on The Cabin on Mango Street, saying: "If the desire to leave Mango Street is almost equal to the pursuit of success and prosperity, then the responsibility and expectation of returning to Mango Street have essentially exceeded the usual American dream."
