Stana Katic's parents are from the Croatian Dalmatian coast. Her father is Serbian and her mother is Croatian. They immigrated from Croatia and gave birth to her. Stana's name is named after her grandmother, which is related to "evil eyes" and can protect her from bad things. She is the eldest daughter of the family, with four younger brothers and one younger sister. She is proficient in English, Serbian-Croatian, Slovenian, French and Italian. She has dual citizenship of the United States and Canada.
