Extended data
The Hutuo River, with its upper reaches above Fenyang, Shanxi, is a canyon-shaped river. It is surrounded by Wutai Mountains on the north, west and south sides. It is in the shape of an "S" and is long. About 116 kilometers. The Fuyang-Jisheng Bridge is in the middle reaches, about 99 kilometers long, and is characterized by a plain river channel with a river bed width of 500-1000 meters and a gentle river channel; the lower reaches of Jisheng Bridge are canyon-shaped rivers. The narrow riverbed is only thirty to fifty meters long, and the current is rapid. At the source of this river, there is a clear stream. After it joins the Laoquantou spring, the water volume increases to 0.5 cubic meters per second and flows to the area where the rivers meet. The clear water stopped flowing, forming a 27-kilometer undercurrent section, which began to appear in Shangyongxing. The following flows are increasing due to the inflow of clean water from various tributaries.
According to old county annals before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Hutuo River was once "the bottom of the river dried up in the spring, and the water turned over in the autumn. The granaries were washed away, the houses collapsed, and there was no food, no shelter, no one to take care of it." Generally during the rainy season, the water is boundless. There are ferries in the villages along the river where you can cross the river by canoe, and the upstream and downstream are supported by sails. There are fish and shrimps in the river, swans, ospreys and other water birds live along the river, and there are geese on autumn nights. The land beside the river is green and grassy, ??with cattle and sheep mixed there. By the early 1970s, the river had dried up and the land along the river was gradually developed. Some trees provide shade, some are turned into orchards, and some are reclaimed into fertile rice fields, where grain, cotton and other crops are planted. During the harvest season, they are fruitful.
