The Origin of Zhangge Village

Zhangge, known as Zhangjiage in history, is a small collection before the 27th year of the Republic of China (A.D. 1938). Zhangjiage is located 60 miles north of Taihe and 3 miles south of Beibazhang River, a tributary of Cihe River. 2 miles to the south is bounded to Bozhou official road, and there is Henan Taihe to Baimayi official road to the west 1, with convenient transportation. Before Jixing, there was only one temple built in the Qing Dynasty, dedicated to "Bi Xia Yuan Jun, the fairy princess of Mount Tai in Dongyue" (known locally as Grandma White Temple). According to Zhang's genealogy, Zhang Lianxuan (Zhang Shanxiang's great-grandfather) was born in Zhanglou Village (more than 2 miles southeast of the temple) in the late Qing Dynasty. This episode is by Zhang Faqi. The main hall of White Grandma Temple is an attic building, so it is called Zhangjiage.

According to the Records of Taihe County compiled during the Republic of China, there is an 8-foot-wide ditch from Huangmen to the south of Zhangjiage, which flows eastward into Machanggou (now mistaken for Mamentang ditch). From the perspective of toponymy and toponymy culture, Zhangjiage should be a place that cannot be ignored at that time. According to historical records, the historical evolution of Taihe first began in Xinyi during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. The site of Xinyi Ancient City is located in Chengzi Village, 4 miles east of Zhangge. Before Qin Dynasty, Xinyi was changed to Song Principality, which was a vassal state fief of Confucius' descendants. From 1978 Zhangge village Qianzhuang house (now Han Zhuang), we can get a glimpse of the prosperity of this area from the relatively complete cultural information of Han Dynasty brick colonnade and other cultural relics. In the Song Dynasty, Ouyang Xiu was appointed as the satrap of Yingzhou (now Fuyang) and dug the North-South Bazhang River. Later, all dynasties attached great importance to ditching and digging rivers to build water conservancy projects to prevent floods. Due to the war and frequent natural disasters and bandits, in the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, that is, AD 1368, there were only 150 households in Taihe County, and a large area of land was barren. Under the social background of mass migration in Ming Dynasty, most residents of Taihe migrated to Shandong from Sophora japonica in Hongdong, Shanxi and Zaolinzhuang, Shandong. Therefore, the history of Xinyi and Zhangjiage is also evidence of Taihe County's long history.

The list of Taihe Land shows that the names of natural villages under the jurisdiction of all districts and towns in the county are mostly with the words "temple", "village" and "bridge" except those with the word "Zhuang" such as Han Zhuang, Zhaozhuang and Mazhuang, while there are only five natural villages with the word "Ge" in the county. These village names with "pavilions" are related to religious culture, which means that these villages had pavilions and temples at that time or at the beginning, and they became village names together with the villagers' surnames. The name of Zhang Jiage also came from this.

The origin of village names is generally related to local surname culture, geographical characteristics, religious culture, geographical location, scale, traditional culture and other factors, and has certain laws. For example, Dong Fan Village, the larger village of Fan in Zhao Miao Dynasty, is Fan Zhai, with Fan Ancestral Hall, which is the center of Fan family in this area. Dong Fan is located in the east of Fanzhai, so it is called Dong Fan Village. Zhao Temple, because of the fire temple, the residents are all surnamed Zhao, so the village is called Zhao Temple. The village names of Huangmen, including Machang and garden village near Chengzi (the site of Xinyi ancient city), should be said to have a certain relationship with Xinyi (the principality of Song Dynasty). The original meaning may be "yellow gate", but it cannot be called "yellow". The surname Huang here is a descendant of Huang Tingjian, a celebrity and calligrapher in the Song Dynasty, and belongs to Huangwangmen, hence the name.

Historically, when Zhangjiage was still a market, Zhao Temple was just an ordinary village. As for why Zhaomiao replaced Zhangjiage as a market town, it will be discussed below.
