(4) This article is limited to filling in two kinds of tax forms-the tax number application form and the tax number declaration form (that is, the one provided to the employer).
(5) Please refer to "Handbook for Filling in Tax Forms for Overseas Students (II)" (I will meet you after the Australian Taxation Bureau announces the new royalty form in July 2005).
I. Application Form for Tax Number (TFN Application)
1. Should I apply for a tax number?
Simply put, as long as you have income in Australia, you must apply for a tax number. Even if you don't work, your bank interest income will be regarded as taxable income. If you don't provide the tax number to the bank, the bank will deduct your income according to the standards of people outside Australia. This standard is much higher than the tax standard of domestic people. In other words, if you don't provide the tax number to the bank, the interest you get will be discounted. Therefore, whether you have a job or not, as long as you have income, you'd better apply for a tax number. Of course, for packages with low annual income or no job, another convenience of applying for a tax number is that you can get a tax refund. In addition, you can also enjoy government subsidies for low-income people. Although I don't know whether this allowance is available every year, I received a subsidy of $258 from the government for low-income people when I applied for tax refund myself in July 2004. So from this perspective, it is quite cost-effective to get a tax number.
2. The way to apply for the tax number
There are two ways. One is online application. The other is the ordinary application procedure. The website of online application is:
e= 1
If it is an ordinary application, you should fill in the form at the Inland Revenue Department or download the form here:
Put a tick next to "electronic tax return".
Q3-Your full name. Q4-Previous name. Q5-Gender. Q6-Date of birth. (I don't need to say these. Hey hey. ^_^)
Q7-Occupation (fill in student, of course).
Q8-Spouse (the' de facto' in the question refers to the' de facto married couple', and this China person doesn't have to worry about it, unless you have lived together in Australia for more than 6 months before applying for the tax number).
Q9-contact address (it can be your address or any address you specify. The tax bureau can contact you anyway. If you move, in theory, you should report to the tax bureau, but in fact, you should tell them at least some time before filing your tax returns. )
Q 10-home address
Many people in China easily fill in this column incorrectly. Be sure to fill in the address of Australia. Because the definition of "Australian resident" in the question (that is, in the tax law) is different from that in the immigration law. As long as you are in Australia, you are technically an "Australian resident". This is mainly because you provide domestic services.
Q 1 1- Were you born in Australia?
Q 12- Are you an Australian resident?
As long as you stay in Australia for more than 6 months, you must fill in YES! ! ! ! The reason is the same as Q 10. "Australian residents" here include short-term residents.
Q 13- Do you have a tax agent?
Generally speaking, it is not possible. You don't have to go through an intermediary to apply for a tax number, do you?
Q 14-your contact information
Q 15-alternate contact (it doesn't matter if there is none. )
Q 16- Signature (below 12, the signature of another guardian or parent is required. )
4. Preventive measures
Here I want to remind everyone: don't forget to go to the bank and tell them your tax number after you get the tax number. Also, the tax number is very confidential personal information in Australia. Please don't mention it in email or other public areas.
Two. Tax number declaration (TFN declaration)
1. When do I need to provide a tax number statement?
Quite simply, as long as you work, you must provide the employer with a tax number statement (except for cash income work). According to the regulations, you should provide the tax number to the employer within 28 days from the date of establishing the employment relationship. If not, the employer will deduct your tax at the highest tax rate of 48.5% according to the regulations. Therefore, if you don't have a tax number before looking for a job, you'd better apply online, which will ensure that you can get the tax number and provide it to your employer within 28 days. But if you really have difficulty surfing the Internet, you can apply for the tax number now, and then indicate it in Q 1 when filling out the form (see the figure below).
The form can be downloaded here:
http://ato.gov.au/content/downloads/n3092form.pdf
Just fill it out and give it to the boss.
Step 2 fill in the form
Q 1- Your tax number?
This is very simple. However, if you applied for a tax number before looking for a job, but it was not approved, please tick "I made a ...". .
Q2-Do you authorize your employer to provide your tax number to the pension institution?
be
Q3-Name
Q4-Used surname (Ghost sister will change after marriage. But Q4 doesn't apply to China people-hehe, socialism is great! )
Q5-Birthday
Q6-Your address in Australia
Q7-How do you get paid?
If you work less than 20 hours a week, please check "Leisure". If it happens to be 20 hours/week, check the part-time job.
Q8-Are you an Australian resident?
It has been said above. Anyone who holds a visa for more than 6 months should fill in YES.
Question 9-Have you calculated the "tax threshold" of this employer?
The current tax law in Australia stipulates that the annual income below 6000 yuan is not deductible. If you fill in "Yes" in this column, the first 6000 yuan paid by your employer is not tax deductible. However, it should also be noted that you can only set a "tax threshold" with one employer in a fiscal year. If you have two jobs at the same time, you'd better set a threshold in the one with high salary. In addition, we should remind everyone that it is a crime to set a "threshold" for two or more jobs in the same fiscal year. So be careful when filling it out.
Q 10-Tax relief for family members (only for Australians)
Fill in the number
Q 1 1- tax compensation (local only)
Fill in the number
Q 12-education and financial debt (for local people only)
Fill in the number
Q 13-Tax relief and pension compensation (for local people only)
Fill in the number
Then the signature and date. You don't need to fill in part B, it's for your boss.
Besides, if your form is printed, don't forget to fill in two pages.
