There are many famous families in Huizhou, known as "fifteen surnames in Xin 'an" and "eight surnames in Huizhou". According to Records of Huizhou History and Records of Xin 'an Famous Ethnic Groups, "Xin 'an Fifteen Surnames" refers to fifteen surnames in ancient Huizhou, including Cheng, Wang, Wu, Huang, Hu, Wang, Li, Fang, Hong, Yu, Bao, Dai, Cao, Jiang and Sun. "Huizhou Eight Surnames" refers to the first eight surnames in "Xin 'an Fifteen Surnames", namely Cheng, Wang, Wu, Huang, Hu, Wang, Li and Fang. The above surnames are distributed in Shexian, yi county, Xiuning, Qimen, Jixi, Wuyuan and other places belonging to ancient Huizhou. For example, there are 20 kings in Shexian, 38 in Xiuning, Wuyuan 14, Qimen 17 and Yixian 165438.

Huizhou clans have played an extremely important role in promoting the historical development of Huizhou, producing representatives from all walks of life, such as "Eight Names of Huizhou".

In addition to the above-mentioned famous clans "Da surname" and "Zheng surname", Huizhou also has some miscellaneous surnames such as Xiao surname, Hakka surname and boat people. "Xiao surname" mainly refers to tenant servants, mostly servants of powerful families such as officials, rich people and wealthy businessmen. Hakkas are mainly immigrants from Anqing after the Ming Dynasty, and most of them live in the wild, also known as "shed people". Most of the "boat people" are descendants of Chen Youliang's nine surnames (Chen, Qian, Lin, Li, Yuan, Sun, Ye, Xu and He) at the end of Yuan Dynasty, and they make a living by boating and transporting fibers all the year round in Xin 'anjiang Valley. The above three categories were in a low position in feudal society, and they could not marry the most popular names, which had obvious hierarchical color.
