According to research, this book should actually date from the end of the Northern and Southern Dynasties or the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and it should have been published before Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty at the latest. The original book consists of three volumes and is recorded in "History of Song Dynasty? Art and Literature". The current "Zhengtong Dao Zang" consists of six volumes. According to the classification method of "Dao Zang", it should have been included in the "Dongxuan Department of Majesty and Ceremony" category, but it was mistakenly placed in the "Taiping Department". There are also four Dunhuang manuscripts (S3863, P3682, S809, and P2337). Two of them, P3682 and S809, are not found in the "Zhengtong Dao Zang" edition and are probably lost.

This book is an important source of existing early Taoist disciplines and rituals. According to the preface, the whole book can be divided into two parts. Repentance and reading of scriptures are man-made rules. They criticize each other and rarely follow them. So he started studying in the late period, and it is unclear which one he was. Since there are many ways to lose one's way, there will be little knowledge and lost direction, laziness and slowness will arise day by day, and majesty and dignity will change from time to time. Adding competition as a pretext, vying for talents, on the day of announcement, all new systems are established; on the day of Chen Xie, all the old rituals are abandoned, the years have passed, the disciplines and disciplines have been lost, and the accumulated habits have become routine, and not one of them remains. If one follows the sutras and precepts and acts in a disciplined manner, he will be ridiculed. Violating the canonical text, one is ignorant of more than one understands, and one is even more confused when it comes to attaining the truth. Failure to abide by the law leads to corruption and corruption. After thinking about the future, it has become a deep valley, so it refers to the five hundred and twelve points to be followed when practicing, and the eight chapters of the ritual code, which are divided into three volumes.
