Today, before Huang Chuan, Gwangju was ruled. Gwangju was placed in the Southern Dynasties and ruled Guangcheng (now Guangshan). It can be traced back to the Wei Dynasty in the Three Kingdoms, when it was called Qiyang County and Dayang County. From the Tang Dynasty, the Five Dynasties to the Song Dynasty, or Dayang County, Rixian County, or Jiangzhou, and so on. The Sui Dynasty renamed Geyang County Cheng County. In the first year of Taiji in the Tang Dynasty (7 12), the capital was moved to Dingcheng (now Huangchuan), which was successively captured by Jinyuan, so the name of Gwangju was established unchanged. At the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, the city and province entered the state and changed to Fengyang House in South Zhili. Xuan still belongs to Runing House. Lingguangshan, Gushi, Shangcheng and Xixi were promoted to Zhili Prefecture in the second year of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (1742), and the leading counties remained unchanged. In the third year of the Republic of China (19 14), Gwangju was abandoned and changed to Huangchuan County, belonging to Ruyang Road. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it belongs to Huangchuan area and is located in the county. 1952 merged into Xinyang area and remained unchanged.

Huangchuan area originally belonged to the first and second districts of Hubei, Henan and Anhui in the Central Plains Liberated Area, and was merged into Huangchuan area in 1949, specializing in Huangchuan County. It governs seven counties including Huangchuan, Guangshan, Xinxian (later renamed Fuxian), Shangcheng, Gushi, Luoshan and Xixian. From 65438 to 0952, Huaibin County (in Wulongji) was separated from Gushi County, Huangchuan County and Xixian County. In the same year, Huangchuan District was abolished, and eight counties belonging to the former Huangchuan District, including Huangchuan, Guangshan, Xinxian, Shangcheng, Gushi, Luoshan, Xixian and Huaibin, were merged into Xinyang District.

In 2009, it was listed as the first county directly under the jurisdiction of Henan Province by the Henan provincial government, which highlighted the important position of Huangchuan in Henan's economy and urban construction, and will also provide a useful pilot and reference for exploring the counties directly under the jurisdiction of Henan Province.
