Advantages and disadvantages of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River

There are three advantages.

1. Flood control: "A long river is a thousand miles long, but the danger lies in Jingjiang". Jianghan Plain and Dongting Lake Plain, where Jingjiang River flows, are fertile soil stretching for thousands of miles. It is one of the most fertile areas in the Yangtze River Basin, and belongs to an important national commodity grain, cotton and aquatic products base. Jingjiang flood control is the most serious and prominent problem in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The normal water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir is 60.

2. Power generation: The total installed capacity of the Three Gorges Hydropower Station is18.2 million kW, with an average annual power generation of 84.7 billion kW·h. If the electricity price of the Three Gorges Hydropower Station is temporarily calculated at 0.18 ~ 0.21(kW h), the annual electricity sales revenue can reach18/kloc.

3. Shipping: The Three Gorges Project is located at the junction of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, with a unique geographical position. On the upper side, the reach from Sandouping to Chongqing can be dredged, and on the lower side, the flow of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River below Gezhouba Water Control Project can be increased in dry season, which can fully improve the navigation conditions between Chongqing and Wuhan and meet the needs of the long-term development of the shipping industry in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

There are three disadvantages:

1, the grand Three Gorges Project was launched, and millions of immigrants from Hubei accounted for only a very small part, while the vast majority of immigrants came from Sichuan. Today, the sequela of Sanmenxia immigrants 30 years ago has not been solved (Sanmenxia project made some immigrants become professional tourists, and it is still the case today). In this context, there has been another wave of millions of immigrants from the Three Gorges. When will we be able to unload this heavy burden?

2. Although we have learned the experience and lessons of Sanmenxia immigrants, we have not let most of them leave their homes, but mainly rely on the local area, but this cannot solve the sequelae of immigrants: a large number of fertile fields in the valley have been flooded and the living standards have been lowered. At the same time, the groundwater level from the Three Gorges Dam to Chongqing and even Chengdu has risen in an all-round way. Once there is a flood, it will seriously threaten the safety of Chongqing and Chengdu. Today's two lakes disaster is a portrayal of Chengdu and Chongqing tomorrow!

2. Seriously disturb the ecological balance of the Three Gorges and even eastern Sichuan;

The sudden increase of a huge water surface will change the local biological population that has been passed down for thousands of years. The new adaptation period is 100 years, which will lead to the disappearance of some dominant animal and plant populations in the local ecosystem, and the insect population in the reservoir area is likely to explode in a short time. Can this drastic ecological change make people feel comfortable? In addition, high dams will hinder the migration of fish, which will eventually reduce the production of the Yangtze River and yellow croaker.

3. Hanjiang River, Yuanjiang River, Xiangjiang River, Ganjiang River and other tributaries of the Yangtze River are all under the Three Gorges Dam, and the Three Gorges Dam can't intercept the major floods in these basins. For example, the ultra-historical flood of 1998 was mainly caused by the continuous rainstorm in the tributaries of the Yangtze River (mainly Yuanjiang) below the Three Gorges Dam, but the main source of the floods (mainly the sixth and seventh floods) in the later part of this year was above the Three Gorges Dam.

If the Three Gorges reservoir area is silted up in the future, it will not be able to intercept the upstream flood (which is very likely). Even if it is not silted up, assuming that the Three Gorges Dam successfully intercepts the upstream flood, as mentioned above, the flood area will expand from below the Three Gorges Dam today to the land of abundance, and the flood area will even be larger than today. Why bother?

If there is another big flood like this year in the future, the rising water level in the Three Gorges reservoir area will be a bomb hanging over the people of the two lakes. If the dam breaks, your millions or tens of millions of troops will be hard to resist.
