Australian permanent resident (P.R.) refers to a person who is not naturalized but holds a permanent visa. Permanent residents can stay, reside and enter Australia indefinitely, and permanent visas are usually valid for five years.

After obtaining a five-year multiple-entry permanent resident visa, it is generally necessary to make the first entry within six months to one year, and the visa will indicate the deadline for the first entry. If you don't enter Australia within the time limit, your visa will be invalid.

You can enter and leave Australia at will after your first entry, and there is no limit to the number of days you can stay each year.

If you do not meet the naturalization requirements before the expiration of the permanent resident visa, or do not want to become an Australian citizen, please apply for the extension of multiple round-trip visas for residents according to the following circumstances:

1. If you are in Australia and don't plan to leave soon, you don't need to apply for any extension visa. Although your round-trip visa for permanent residents has expired, as long as you don't leave the country, your permanent resident status will not be affected by the expiration of your round-trip visa. When you need to leave the country, you can apply to the Immigration Bureau for a multiple-entry visa to extend your stay, as follows:

A: If you have lived in Australia for two or more years in the past five years, you can get a five-year multiple-entry visa extension.

B. If you have a strong and beneficial relationship with Australia and there are force majeure reasons to explain why you have not lived in Australia for more than five years (supporting documents are required), you can obtain a five-year multiple-entry resident visa.

C If you have lived in Australia for one day or more in the past five years, and there are force majeure reasons to explain why you have not lived in Australia for more than five years (proof materials are required), you can get a three-month multiple-entry visa extension.

D. If you are the spouse, child or immediate family member of an existing or potential holder of a five-year or three-month multiple-entry resident visa, you are also eligible for a multiple-entry resident visa (whether you apply at the same time as your family members or after them), and your visa will be valid for the same period as your family members' visa.

E. When the extended multiple-entry visa for the above-mentioned five-year residents is about to expire in five years, they must apply for an extension visa according to the situation of A, B or D, that is, they must live for two years or more every five years before they can be extended. Of course, applicants who meet the conditions of B or D can also extend their time;

If you leave the country without a valid multiple-entry visa, you may lose the qualification to return to Australia.

If you are outside Australia, you must apply to the Australian Embassy for an extension before the visa expires. The conditions are the same as above.

Australia's residence requirements for new immigrants are very relaxed. New immigrants are not required to live in Australia for a certain period of time every year. In addition, a family can only get a visa extension if a person meets the required residence requirements. Therefore, after obtaining an Australian permanent resident visa, you can go to Australia for the first time, and then you can go to other countries to develop according to your personal needs and settle in Australia at any time within five years.

In addition, Australian permanent residents can enter and leave New Zealand at any time, and even work or live there without applying for any visa; However, New Zealand permanent residents who want to go to Australia must apply for a visa, and only New Zealand citizens can enter Australia without a visa.
