1774, Spanish Juan Perez (1774) and British captain james cook (1778) were the first Europeans to see the island. These islands were first discovered by western explorers. 1778, Captain james cook arrived there. 1784, George Dixon made the first survey of these islands and named them after a ship in his fleet, the Queen Charlotte.
