Huashang Daily: Recently, Zhao Benshan didn't attend the symposium on literature and art, and everyone started talking again. What does this mean in your opinion?

Xiao Ying: It means that Zhao Benshan, as an iconic figure in the entertainment circle and even sought after by many media including CCTV, is now out of date under the new national cultural policy and guidance. At present, Zhao Benshan has been rejected by several literary forums in the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, Liaoning Province and Tieling City, which is a signal of refusing to turn the traditional folk art duo into vulgar and market slaves. In other words, the era when Zhao Benshan made them vulgar is coming to an end.

Huashang Daily: We have seen that since Havin became the director of the Spring Festival Evening, Zhao Benshan has withdrawn from the stage of the Spring Festival Evening. In your opinion, what are their different views on the road of literature and art?

Xiao Ying: I don't think Zhao Benshan can attend the Spring Festival Gala. It cannot be simply interpreted as that Zhao Benshan and Ha Wen disagree or have any contradictions. I think it should be interpreted from the cultural orientation of the whole country. Frankly speaking, judging from our operation of CCTV Spring Festival Gala, it is definitely not a general director of the Spring Festival Gala, or even CCTV itself can decide who will go or not, especially an iconic figure like Zhao Benshan.

Huashang Daily: Recently, I heard you say that the duet is too vulgar and not elegant, and it should not be on the Spring Festival Evening. Why?

Xiao Ying: I think this is a misunderstanding. I never said that two people became vulgar. I mean the so-called duet of Zhao Benshan. I named Zhao Benshan's "Errenzhuan" as "Grey Errenzhuan". Some people think that when I criticize Zhao Benshan, I criticize Errenzhuan, which is a misunderstanding of my criticism of Zhao Benshan's vulgar performing arts.

Huashang Daily: Rejecting Zhao Benshan does not mean rejecting the duet?

Xiao Ying: Yes! What I criticize is Zhao Benshan's distorted expression of vulgarization of duet, not the duet as a traditional art in Northeast China. Traditional duets do have vulgar content. As a folk art in China's intangible cultural heritage, Errenzhuan came from the fields in the primitive period of traditional local art, but in its historical development of more than 300 years, Errenzhuan art has experienced a process of upgrading from the fields to the classic art.

Huashang Daily: Zhao Benshan once said that two people turned into pig intestines, which may be the vulgar art of grounding gas. what do you think?

Xiao Ying: Zhao Benshan said that Errenzhuan is just a pig's large intestine, not too cultural. His statement castrated the 300-year history of artistic sublimation of Erren Zhuan. They generally believed that the duet performed by Liu Laogen in Zhao Benshan was not a duet at all, but a vulgar Shang Yan that was incompatible with the duet. The performance theme and artistic essence handed down in the 300-year-old duet were abandoned in Zhao Benshan's duet and Liu Laogen's big stage. At that time, Jiang Kun, vice chairman of the Chinese Quyi Artists Association, and Wu Bingan, vice director of the National Committee of Experts for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage, both solemnly pointed out that Zhao Benshan, as a descendant of Errenzhuan, did not inherit the art of Errenzhuan and blindly catered to the vulgar performance of the market. Huashang Daily: In your opinion, what is the essence of these two-person duet traditions abandoned by Zhao Benshan?

Xiao Ying: In the history of more than 300 years, these two people have formed a unique performing art form, which can be compared with traditional folk arts such as Kunqu Opera and Huangmei Opera in the south. For example, in terms of performance techniques, the two have four occupations: "singing, speaking, accompanying and dancing". Some even add a "unique skill", which is the so-called unique skill. Zhao Benshan's duet is mainly about speaking, which basically excludes others. The performance of Xiao Shenyang, Zhao Benshan's favorite disciple, is to tell jokes in chunks. His so-called "singing" is not singing in a duet at all, but imitating the program and soaring high notes. Traditionally, Errenzhuan's musical vocals are extremely rich, known as "nine tones and eighteen tones, seventy-two joys", which is invisible on Liu Laogen's stage.
