Is there water on the moon?

British scientists are working with NASA to study the possibility of establishing human settlements on the moon and try to find water on the moon.

Researchers at Oxford University in England are building a "water resource detector" for NASA to explore the moon. Scientists use infrared mapping technology, hoping to see clearly whether the deep pits near the moon's poles contain ice cubes that can be melted into water.

Because water is heavy, it is not easy to send water to space; If there is ice on the moon, astronauts can get drinking water from it, which will be of great help to mankind in the future. If water can be found, NASA can start to build a permanent base on the moon in 2020, which will be a springboard for the next exploration of Mars.

The craters at the moon's poles are deep and have been in darkness and cold for a long time. Scientists have long confirmed that there is ice at the poles of Mercury, so they think there may be ice in the deep pit of the moon. According to the survey of NASA spacecraft 1998, there are about11~ 330 million tons of ice on the moon, distributed at the poles of 25,000 square miles.

In this plan, scientists will first shoot the deep pit with an infrared camera, measure the temperature at the bottom of the pit and find out where there may be ice; Then launch a rocket, transport the satellite to the orbit of 30 miles on the surface of the moon, and spend a year photographing the surface of the moon to make a three-dimensional image.

The second spacecraft, named Lunar Pit Observation and Perception Satellite, will launch a 4-ton probe spacecraft to the bottom of the pit where ice is estimated, and then the satellite will fly into the pit to analyze whether the dust components produced after the collision of the spacecraft contain water.
