Most Japanese returned to China directly after the war, but about 20,000 Japanese remained in China. However, even if many people go back, they have become the bottom of society and it is difficult to integrate into Japanese society again. This is because these Japanese who have lived in China for a long time have been divorced from Japanese society, and their thoughts and values have been influenced by China. Moreover, their Japanese ability is poor, and it is difficult for them to adapt to life in Japan. Therefore, many people lose their ability to work after returning to China, and these Japanese will be discriminated against and not accepted by Japanese families.

Even at that time, there were many leftover women, among the Japanese overseas Chinese who had left China. They are mainly composed of the wives and daughters of Japanese "pioneering group", female students and mainland brides sent from Japan to the northeast. In order to stabilize immigration, the Japanese government sent young girls from all over Japan to the northeast after short-term training, which is the main source of left-behind women. Because most of their husbands and relatives committed suicide, died of war and illness. Most of them entered local families voluntarily or for survival, so they made northeast Chinese mainland their home, and some of them later returned to China.

Therefore, for various reasons, many Japanese people at that time did not return to their own countries, but stayed in China. It's not that they don't want to go back, but that going back is not as good as being treated at home.
