American Immigration and Nationality Act 10 1a

Article 10 1(a)(22) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) of the United States stipulates that "'American national' refers to (a) an American citizen or (b) a person who is not an American citizen but wishes to serve the United States permanently." Therefore, American citizens are also American nationals. Non-citizenship only applies to individuals born in American Samoa or Sweden whose parents are not American citizens. Dual nationality means that a person is a national of two countries at the same time. Every country has its own nationality law according to its own policies. People can have dual nationality through automatic form rather than selective form. For example, children whose parents are American citizens born abroad can be American citizens or citizens of the country where they were born.
