Li Peiyi was born in Chencun, Shunde, the hometown of overseas Chinese in Guangdong. She joined the Guangdong Music Troupe in 1963 and has been performing for more than 40 years. She has rich performance experience, dignified manners, beautiful timbre, and delicate accents. Her unique sub-throat singing art is popular at home and abroad, and has won the love and praise of audiences in Hong Kong, Macao, the United States, Canada, Australia and other places. After Lai Pei-yee immigrated to Canada in 1991, she founded the "Lai Pei-yee Theater Academy" in Calgary to promote the development of Guangdong Cantonese opera art overseas and spread the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. In 2005 and 2006, she held solo concerts in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and her hometown Chencun, Shunde. Her long and soulful music captivated the audience and was well received.
