Why do Asians default to East Asians?
In the United States, Asians are basically from the perspective of race rather than geography, just like no one will call white South Africans Africans. This also proves the failure of the geographical concept of Asia from another angle. But I blame this on the failure of geography and history education in American high schools. According to my observation in the United States in recent months, quite a few Americans don't know that India is in Asia, but they have no idea where India is. Besides, they always regard Taiwan Province Province as a country. Therefore, when some angry young students in Chinese mainland solemnly declare that Taiwan Province Province belongs to China, in fact, only what the fuck will appear in their minds! ? The so-called stereotype, people are used to looking for the most typical person or thing. As we all know, language, culture and race have never been strictly defined, but in fact they are naturally transitional. Just like talking about Europe, people usually think of Britain, France, Germany and Italy, but the formation of these nation-states and their language and culture is a long and chaotic process. For ideology, the context of the times is also very important. For example, in Moses' Egypt, when people mentioned Asia, they meant Jews. In fact, this problem depends on the composition of ethnic minorities (neither white nor white) in every western country: I don't know the United States. In Britain, from my personal experience, there are too many immigrants from India and Pakistan in this country. Generally speaking, many Asians respond to Indians and Indians. East Asians should be treated differently. Big cities like London and Manchester will distinguish between China people, Japanese people and Koreans. Smaller towns generally call all East Asians China people (thanks to the influence of Chinese food! )。
