Differences between exchange students and international students
Exchange students and international students are two different projects. They are different in concept, origin, nature and classification:
1. Different concepts
Exchange students (English name: exchangestudent), also known as inter-school student exchange program, "student exchange" is a project with the purpose of improving mutual understanding and respect between people from different regions and countries, and cultivating young people's worldview.
International students refer to students who study abroad outside their home country. The term "foreign students" originated from the cultural exchanges between China and Japan during the Tang Dynasty in China. It means Japanese students who stayed in China to study after the envoys sent to the Tang Dynasty returned to China. Now it generally refers to students who stay abroad to study or research
2 , different origins
The "International Student Exchange Program" began after the Second World War. Currently, students from more than 60 countries and regions around the world participate in exchange programs and exchange students with each other every year.
During the Tang Dynasty, the Japanese government sent Tang envoys to China many times in order to absorb China's advanced culture. The mission to the Tang Dynasty was a diplomatic envoy and could not stay in China for too long, so it was difficult to better absorb China's advanced culture. Therefore, starting from the second dispatch of envoys to the Tang Dynasty, the Japanese government sent both "foreign students" and "returning students".
3. Different natures
Exchange students are a non-profit government program that originated after World War II. Due to its public welfare nature, reasonable expenses and strict overseas management, it has been popular in Europe for more than 40 years. It was introduced to China by the Ministry of Education of China in the 1970s.
International students are a profit-making project. To study in another country, you need to pay tuition fees for studying abroad. The tuition fees for studying abroad are different in each country.
4. Different categories
Exchange students are divided into international student exchange and academic research exchange. The international student exchange program sends students as exchange students to a country of their choice. They study in a local high school or university for one year. Exchange students can choose to exchange to European and American countries.
International students are divided into two types: self-financed study abroad and government-sponsored study abroad. The specific funding standards for accommodation, meals, transportation, phone calls, books and materials, medical insurance, one-time placement fees, communication expenses, etc. for government-sponsored students studying abroad are in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.
5. Different reasons
The purpose of exchange students is to strengthen exchanges between different countries around the world, enhance understanding, cultural communication and academic exchanges between countries, and promote friendly exchanges between countries .
The reasons for studying abroad are traveling, broadening horizons and experience, learning language and cultural knowledge related to the country, pursuing better educational conditions, employment, exercising the ability to live independently, reasons related to immigration, etc.
