Regional Characteristics of Fanchang Folk Songs

Fanchang County is located in Jiang Nanan, Anhui Province, with beautiful mountains and rivers, pleasant climate, rolling hills and dense river networks. It is this land and water that breeds Fanchang folk songs with concise language, vivid musical image and colorful expressions. Fanchang is divided according to landform features, and some of them are mountainous areas, such as Suncun, Eshan and Chisha. Some are polder areas, such as Zhonggou, Sanshan, Eqiao, Gaoan and Xingang. Some are mainland China, such as Baoding and Zhou Xiao.

Because of the different dialects in different regions, the charm of Han folk songs is also different. After the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, there were a large number of immigrants in Suizhou, Yingshan, Xiaogan and other places in Hubei, and the folk songs in this area had obvious charm of Hua Gutiao in Hubei. Baoding and Zhou Xiao are the continents formed after the Yangtze River changes in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. Most residents come from places like Wuwei in Jiangbei, so the folk songs here are rich and soothing, with strong characteristics in Jiangbei. Huang Hu, Chisha and Suncun are close to Tongling, which is reflected in the tone of Tongling dialect in folk songs. The Baodawei area around Zhonggou, Eqiao, Fushan and Sanshan is an authentic Fanchang dialect area, and the folk songs here are rich in the cultural atmosphere of Hanshui Town in the south of the Yangtze River.
