How should families apply for a visa when they send their children to study in the United States for undergraduate studies?

1. Application process

1. Fill out the online DS-160 non-immigrant visa application form and print out the "confirmation page" with a barcode.

Note: All applicants, including children, must submit the DS-160 form online and bring a clearly printed "confirmation page" with them when going to the embassy or consulate for an interview. Make sure that all information is completed and correct before submitting. No changes can be made after submission. Remember the DS-160 number to make an appointment for an interview.

2. Pay the visa application fee.

Note: After payment is completed, print the receipt number and keep it properly. Once lost, it cannot be replaced. If the receipt number is not provided, the reservation will not be made.

3. Make an appointment for an interview.

Log in to your profile page using the credentials you used to pay.

After entering the system, you can see the control panel. Click "Schedule Appointment" on the left-hand menu to start the appointment scheduling process.

Materials required for making an appointment: (1) Passport number; (2) Number on the visa application payment receipt; (3) Ten (10) digit barcode number on the DS-160 confirmation page.

In the next process, you need to select the visa type, enter personal information, add relatives, select the document delivery address, confirm the payment status of the visa fee, and the last step is to arrange an interview time.

4. Go to the appointment location for an interview.

Go to the embassy/consulate for an interview at the agreed time. Please bring with you a printout of your appointment slip, a printout of the DS-160 confirmation page, a recent photo taken within the last six months, and all old and new passports. If any of the above materials are missing, the application will not be accepted.

Note: Food and any liquids, including drinks, are not allowed in the embassy visa office. No electronic devices including mobile phones are allowed, so it is recommended not to bring anything with you except keys, wallets and visa application folders. It is very important to be honest during the interview. Misleading, lying/or presenting relevant false information may result in permanent rejection of the visa.

5. Receive passport and visa.

If the visa is approved, the passport and visa will be sent to the designated location selected during the interview appointment.

2. Required materials

Application materials

1. Non-immigrant visa electronic application form (DS-160).

2. A valid passport for traveling to the United States must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended period of stay in the United States. If the passport contains more than one person, each visa applicant will need to submit a separate application.

3. A 2-inch x 2-inch (5 cm x 5 cm) photo taken within the last six months.

4. In addition to the above materials, the interview appointment form should also be presented.

Supporting documents

You can also provide other supporting documents to the visa officer. Supporting documents are one of the factors that the visa officer needs to consider during the interview.

Note: Please do not use false materials. Deception or misrepresentation of facts may result in permanent visa denial.
