Why did the Qing dynasty order the Han people not to "travel east"
After the Qing Dynasty established and controlled the Central Plains, it was extremely cautious about the development of Northeast China and the migration of Han people. The reason was that the northeast was a vast land at that time, and the Manchu government fully accepted the historical lessons of the Mongols. After the reunification of the whole country, the Manchu government has always held a ban on the development of the Han nationality in the northeast, which has certain historical background and strategic considerations behind it.
Northeast China was a barren land before the Qing Dynasty entered the Central Plains, and it was in urgent need of development. At that time, the vast territory of northeast China, including the present Russian Far East, Sakhalin Island and Siberia, was millions of square kilometers. At the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, Jurchen rose on this vast land.
1644 Manchu aristocrats entered the customs, but it is still uncertain whether they will rule the whole country. Especially in the south, there was Nanming regime at that time, and all localities were actively resisting. So at that time, the emperor shunzhi often told his subordinates that if the Qing dynasty failed to rule China, he would still go back. Just like the Yuan Dynasty, it's a big deal to go back to the Northeast, continue to be king and emperor in the North, and still be emperor in the North.
The Manchu government fully accepted the experience and lessons of the Mongols. Yuan Shundi was able to escape unscathed, continue to return to the Mongolian grassland, and continue to be the emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, mainly because the Yuan Dynasty prohibited the Han people from developing the Mongolian grassland in the north. Therefore, Mongols can still be emperors when they return to the north. The Manchu government left itself a way out. Once you encounter strong resistance from the Han people, you can always return to your hometown in the northeast and continue to be the master of the north.
To this end, the Manchu government established the wicker border pass in the northeast to prevent the Han people from breaking into the northeast. In fact, the wicker frame is equivalent to the current separation wall, which is composed of earth walls and willows. Together with the Manchu border guards, it formed an iron wall for the Han people to enter the northeast. In this way, the northeast, where no Han Chinese entered, is still full of people.
Generally speaking, there are many reasons why the Manchu government banned Han people from developing in the northeast.
On the one hand, in order to protect Long Mai, the Qing Dynasty ensured that the dominant position of Manchu was not shaken by the Han people. On the other hand, it is also to prevent the Han people from colluding with foreign invasion, thus threatening the stability of the Manchu regime.
In addition, the Manchu government also needed to maintain territorial integrity and security under external international pressure. During the reign of Kangxi, the infiltration and threat of Russia to the territory of Manchu increased day by day, so the prohibition of Han people from entering the northeast was also to prevent Russia from colluding with Han people against the Qing Dynasty.
Although it was reasonable and necessary for the Manchu government to prohibit Han Chinese from entering the Northeast under the historical background at that time, it also had a certain impact on the development of the Northeast.
