Is it necessary for Canada to renew the Maple Leaf Card in person?

Don't think that everything will be fine if you get the maple leaf card. It needs maintenance and replacement.

It usually takes 8~ 12 weeks to get a maple leaf card. The applicant must go to the designated place with the notice in person, and no one else may collect it. Cardholders can apply for a new maple leaf card at most 9 months before the expiration of the Canadian maple leaf card. After the card is made, the Immigration Department will keep it for 180 days. If the applicant fails to get it within the time limit, the card will be destroyed. At that time, the applicant must reapply.

Canadian Maple Leaf Card Update Requirements

Whether you apply for a maple leaf card for the first time or for a second time after the expiration of five years, you must pass the "residence test". Anyone who holds permanent residence status in Canada must fulfill the obligation of residence for more than 730 days in any five-year period. If you have not lived for more than 730 days in any five years after landing, you can be considered as meeting the residence requirements in the following five cases, and the time spent living abroad is counted as fulfilling your residence obligations:

1. Accompany Canadian citizens abroad: stay outside Canada with family members with Canadian citizenship;

2. Overseas employment: full-time employees of Canadian enterprises stationed overseas or full-time Canadian official civil servants stationed overseas.

3. Accompany Canadian permanent residents abroad. Every day you accompany a Canadian permanent resident abroad can be counted. This permanent resident must be your spouse, cohabiting partner or parents.

4. Hold a valid re-entry permit. A valid re-entry permit holder can count every day abroad.

5. Humanitarian reasons. If the residence requirements cannot be met, any irresistible humanitarian factors can still be taken into consideration whether to maintain permanent resident status, and the Immigration Bureau will inform whether additional review is needed.

The whole process of replacing the maple leaf card is roughly as follows

Immigration receives materials.

The materials for card replacement will initially be mailed to the "Case Processing Center" located in Sydney, NS Province, namely the Maple Leaf Card Replacement Application Processing Center.

Preliminary review and queuing of materials

1. After the application center receives the materials, a special preliminary examination department will review the completeness of the materials. Any materials that do not meet the requirements will be returned to the applicant for the following reasons:

B. The application form is inconsistent with the instruction;

C. The photos used in the application do not conform to the specifications;

D. the application fee of $50 has not been paid.

2. After the preliminary examination is passed, the Immigration Bureau will queue up the application according to the time when the applicant mailed the application materials, and will not start until the formal review procedure of the application is arranged. This queuing time varies, depending on the number of applications caused by many factors. Internal work plan of immigration bureau, festivals, general elections, strikes, etc. Will affect the queuing time. Usually this queue time is usually 2-4 months.

How to get the certificate after approval?

At present, the Immigration Bureau has the following two ways to give the applicant a new maple leaf card:

1. Mail the new card directly to the applicant's Canada;

2. Inform the applicant to go to the office of the Immigration Bureau to get the certificate in person at the specified time and place.

If I can't get the maple leaf card right away, how long will it be kept for me?

1. If it is not collected within 180 days after notification, the maple leaf card will be destroyed. After the maple leaf card is cancelled, you need to re-apply and pay the application fee.

2. The receipt notice can only be sent to the Canadian address you specified, not to the address in China.

3. When you get the Maple Leaf Card, CIC Office of Immigration Bureau requires you to do a residence obligation test, which means to check the entry and exit records of all your passports in the past five years.
