What dialect is spoken in Hainan?

Most of the aborigines in Hainan immigrated from Guangzhou and Fujian a long time ago. Of course, most of them are from Fujian. Therefore, Hainan dialect evolved from Minnan dialect and belongs to Minnan language family, similar to Fujian Taiwanese.

However, there are differences in Hainan dialect in different parts of the island.

Danzhou dialect and Lingao dialect are different from Hainan dialect, but similar to Cantonese.

In the eastern coastal areas, such as Wanning, Lingshui, Wenchang, Hainan dialect is similar. Hainan dialect in Dongfang County is fast and difficult to master.

Also, there are "village dialects" in many places, such as the villages near Haikou City.

Some people can speak Mandarin, so don't worry. Most people in tourist cities can speak Mandarin, otherwise how can they make money?
